2006 face-lift on my 2004 question...

A friend of a friend has a front end from a 2006 that he may sell, it consists of (from what I gather) headlights, grill and bumper. I half fancy it to give my 54 plate a newer look but unsure what the parts would be worth... also, is it a simple bolt on task or is it far more involved than that ???

Cheers,
Matt

Not exactly a bolt on task, though within the capability of a reasonable home mechanic. I paid £600 for the parts and sold my old lights/bumper etc. for about £400.

Some of the things you'll need to do the job are:
- What you've described is not all the things you need. From memory, there's a plastic support bracket that the 2006 lights attach to.
- You'll need to modify the crash bar with an angle grinder to fit the 2006 bumper and the position of the fog lamps.
- You'll need to modify the front wings where they join at the front to remove the lip, and ideally bond the two parts of the wing together.
- The bumper support brackets are different, though modifying the early brackets to fit the later bumper is easier than modifying the later brackets to fit the earlier wings.
- You need the light plugs to use to modify the wiring to fit the newer lights (light plugs can be found on ebay for about £80, though are available for a lot less with the right searches). I've seen someone just solder the wires to the pins on the later lights, though using the plugs is well worth it.
- Modifying the wiring is straight forward if you have the right wiring diagram. However, there are several versions about and few seem to be accurate. One issue is getting the bi-xenon shutters to work correctly and I did a post recently about this.
- The headlight washer system is all different, though you can modify the washer reservoir and use a mini high pressure pump (£17 from ebay plus a rubber grommet) to get this to work.
- You'll probably need to think about painting the bumper to match the car colour - and this is typically £150 Current:
