td6/v8 anyone got rid of the gear stick for a rotary panel?

as it says in the title really , just wondering if anyone has ever got rid of the gear stick and switched to a rotary type or similair?

i have seen with the paddle shifts you can do manual gear selection ect but not sure how the box works so are the other functions electronic and just the park operated from the cable?

would be nice to have the newer look interior mainly

Hi mate

I'm the one that created the paddle shift update so know about the transmissions, the pre rotary gear shift transmissions use cable operated selectors for all its positions P R N D. Only the very later L322s use electronic transmission selectors.

You'd need to fit an electronic shift actuator and then control it with the rotary switch.. possible, but a lot of work..

There are a few cars out there with remote selectors but most of them are only a few years old, so they will more that likely be ECU controlled stepper motors... the only car that springs to mind that would have a simpler analogue system is the Rolls Royce / Bentley's from the late 80's early 90's, they had a fly by wire gear shift, resembles a windscreen wiper motor! Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer...
