2011 tdV8 diff oil

Gents,
For years I have changed my diff oils at approx 30kmiles ,60K, 90K,etc and always used "Hypoid90 ".

My car has now done 64K but , unless I am mistaken, the annual Main Dealer service will not have changed the diff oils so, my question is , Should I stick to Hypoid90 or is their anything better?.
I intend to keep this car for many years, so will be changing it very soon.

Has anyone got a list of service jobs to do over and above what is covered in the MD service1 /2 schedule ?

Today's sunshine has inspired me to get out and get under.

Cheers. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Have a look in the recommended lubricants for the diff oils, there is a LR part number for them or ask Dan. I'm assuming that they will be the same as the 3.6 and 4.2, I think the diffs are the same (worth checking though) There is a Castrol one and a texaco one, the front and back are different and there is a different fluid if you have an active rear diff.

You are right in they don't get changed as part of the services it is an extra, however I tend to find the dealers don't bother saying it needs doing.

While doing the diffs I would do the transfer box too, and if you haven't the gearbox (just a filter and fluid drain not a flush) There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Hi

Front and Rear Diffs Castrol AF-XO 75W/90 0.75litres Front 1.2litres Rear total 2 litres

Simplest job going.

This is assuming you dont have the rear locking diff.

I sourced the oil for £25.00 per litre (I think it was from Opie)

I agree with NMJ -Whilst you are under there change the transfer case oil. Another simple job but the oil is only supplied by LR:
Transfer Case Oil Shell F0753 1.5 litres £23.00 per litre.

Again another simple job. Thumbs Up

I would have also changed the ATF and filter when I serviced mine but I still can not accurately locate the fill plug. the WSM picture is rubbish and the internet shows me a plug which appears too low down to allow for the approx 9 litres of fluid to be inserted. The special tool (spanner) is about £50.00 but if ever I found the correct filler point I would see if there is an alternative. Confused.com Embarassed 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

The gearbox oil capacity includes oil in the torque converter etc, not just the pan. Checking the level and topping-up requires the engine to be running to keep the oilways etc full.

I've been looking into all this myself as dealers, even independents want copious quantities of our British beer tokens to these jobs.

The diffs and the transfer case seem straight forward enough, it's the 8 speed ZF that's the issue. there is a drain plug, and a fluid check plug just above it as you say. you are supposed to check that there is enough fluid in the box before you start I believe, hence the upper of the lower plugs if that makes sense.

I don't think the 8 speed will be as straight forward as any other box where you drain the fluid take the pan off and change the filter. Sad Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

I bought last week one 3.6 TDV8, is has changed the gearbox oil about 20K, i have the invoice it was done in 2014.

Should i change the differential oil? I don´t have any information when it has been changed?
Any ideia about costs?

What is should change also?

Many Thanks,

changing the diff and transfer oils is pretty simple, you just need to buy the correct fluids and have some basic tools to undo the drain and filler plugs. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE
