L322 flat battery

Anyone,

Wife started car, pulled out of garage, drove 100 yards and stopped. She parked up and went into a shop, came out and tried to start the car and all she had was a clicking nothing no turn over.

I was in work so managed to get to her and I checked battery voltage and that was 6.2v so I know the battery was flat but if that was the case how did she first start the car and drive 100 yards?

After a jump start the battery was taking 12.5v and with a rev of the throttle it went up to 13.6v I think so I presume the alternator is ok.

I have a feeling she left something on that drained the battery so called the AA out and had them just to check the battery, he said it was stuffed and only taking 7amps so I used my clamp meter and mine was showing 42amps so either its working fine or he was telling porkies, anyway he was their 2 minutes and drove off.

She has now gone to work (nights) and the car started fine but now I have one step stuck out and the other drivers side not working at all, any ideas?

Crazy day. Range Rover quotes.....

Voltage shouldn't change when you rev it. I don't think.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

It was showing 12.6v on idle when revved it went up to 13.6v or there about so I know the alternator is charging.

Probably battery, possibly alternator.

Just enough juice to start it, but used up what was left in the 100 yd drive to the shops.

How long had the car been stood before use, and what trips prior to this, long, short etc?

Me, I would get the battery on charge for a good while, and see what happens, keep checking the voltage with engine off and engine on (at idle). With engine on you should expect 14v+ from the alternator.

Cheaper to replace a battery than an alternator, but you could then end up having to buy both! Big Cry .

12.6v is a little low, would expect mid 13v with the engine running.

Suspecting diode pack on the alternator. At idle turn everything electrical on see what happens to the voltage. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yeh I'll turn everything on later and see if the voltage increases and go from their, but don't see why the steps stop working. Range Rover quotes.....

Was sitting in mine the ither day eith the iid tool plugged in and started playing with all the buttons.to see which one made the alternator work more. The front heated screen made the voltage jump by 0.6 , ( i presume to compensate for the draw on the battery ) by far the biggest jump of any toy in the car , maybe your wife put that on and it drained the battery ? 2015 4.4 AB

Well went to Halfrauds and they carried out a battery test and said the battery was fine and the AA guy said it was Censored .

Took the car for a log ride and so far all's ok I think it needs a good charge to be honest but time will tell. Range Rover quotes.....

AA man is financially motivated to sell batteries. Batteries to the AA is same as PPI to the banks.

Ummm cant see any reference to a 300 amp fuse anywhere in any manual, I'm wondering now if that's feeding some other axillary somewhere?

Charged battery and again the cars battery went flat. When I jump start the car the voltage on the battery is 10.6v or there about's but when I turn on all window demisters it drops to 8 or so volts.

Therefore I presume the battery is not getting a charge but.......... I connected the below lead back to the battery terminal as a temp connection until I get a fuse and when I then test the voltage its sat at 11.5v or so and when revved its at 13.8 or so volts.

I'm now assuming that lead is coming from the alternator and its part of the charging circuit hence the reason the battery's going flat.

Fuse ordered.
Battery on charge.
Battery tester coming.

Now I hope my thinking is correct. Range Rover quotes.....
