Tire size observations

Recently went from 255/60/19 Falken MS tires to 275/45/19 Pirelli Sorpion ice and snow. The handling is greatly improved with the slightly wider, lower sidewall Pirellis. How much is due to size or make I don't know. I'd assume size mostly. Less body roll but harsher hits on the pot holes. So far gas mileage seems about the same. I drive very conservative but this would add for those who wish a more sporty experience. Quicker launches and easier to maintain or accelerate up hills. Theoretically I should see a 7% drop in fuel mileage but change in functional torque curve and lower ride height may compensate. The 255/60/19 were a perfect match for having speedometer read identical to GPS and radar. The 275/45/19 are just at 5 MPH over at 75 MPH reading so 75 is actually 70 and 70 is actually 66. For me the big take away here is that I do have a choice in tire size and the will function adequately. Sometimes size does matter....for price. Bridgestone Dueler in 245/55/19 are $20 a tire cheaper and the size difference is less than ½ inch in width and diameter.
