Extended wood trim change

I know this has been done a couple of times on here, but thought I'd post with what I've found in the current market.

I bought my 2012 SC in Feb. Searched for some time and finally found most of the spec I wanted except its got privacy glass (I'll live with it) and Cherry Wood trim - my least favoured of those available. So I bought the car thinking I'd be able to change the trim - and decided to target Piano Black. What I found was:

Piano Black pieces are often available on Ebay - second hand. Most often at least one piece is scratched, most often the kits are 6, 8 or 10 pieces - I didn't see one with all 14 pieces. Prices are currently around £500 for most of the sets.

Powerful UK do most of the pieces in Piano Black and/or about half the pieces in Carbon look. These are offered on an exchange basis so what you get are refinished used ones - but essentially as new. I emailed for prices of a full set in both colours, but never got a reply. From the website the 10 pieces they do list in Black come to about £800. Obviously there's the labour to change on top plus postage etc plus the extra bits needed for a full set.

I also found http://www.silvercrest-woodtrim.co.uk/ online. I got a very quick and helpful answer from them. They could do any finish I wanted and quoted £995 +VAT for Piano Black and £1395 +VAT for Carbon look. Their process is that you have to get the trim off the car and to them. They then refinish it as required and return it to you in about 2 to 3 weeks ready for refitting. The website gallery looks like they do extremely high quality work.

I also saw on here a couple of posts from JFB1977 recommending a company called Garnish working out of Exeter which is only about an hour from me. http://www.garnish-uk.com/hydrographics-exeter/ James Abbot who runs the Hydrographics side of the business couldn't have been more helpful. You can choose any one of the available finishes. He did the whole 14 piece set in carbon look for £595 fitted. The finish is absolutely first class and James took enormous care in fitting it all to the car. Couldn't be happier with the outcome, an outstanding job at a very reasonable cost. Like others, James works on an exchange basis. So first I chose my finish. Then he prepared a set of pieces and fixed the day for changeover. I took the car in and he swapped it all over and kept my old cherry wood set.

Easily the best of the available options that I found. And I know some of you actually like Cherry Wood - very last century from my perspective. I'm sure James would do your car in my old set for a very reasonable price!

I couldn't get photos that do it justice. The "before" Cherry Wood doesn't look like the '70s formica that it does in real life and the "after" high gloss carbon appears just ordinary black. But up close, I'm telling you the difference in both look and quality is chalk and cheese.

Thanks for the comments guys.

The wood doesn't look so bad in the pics Alan - sort of looks like wood - which it didn't in real life. I do like the Piano black that you have but very pleased I went with the carbon look. Just gives it a bit more interest. Could see it a bit better today being overcast rather than bright sun.
