I used to like the 'this is what might be wrong and how to fix it' approach of the early WD programs especially as they tended to concentrate on what many petrol heads would call 'fixer-uppers'. They definitely made the wrong decision when they went over the pond as they now have vehicles on that not many over here can relate to. Didnt Mike and Edd have a pre-WD program where Mike tried to find a second hand car for punters and Edd showed private sellers how to spruce up their cars that they couldn't sell. I remember him showing a bloke that cleaning the mud, dog hairs and rubbish out of his s1 Disco and giving it a wash made it more likely someone would but it....

Yes. I liked the early ones. You had a feeling with those that, with a few skills and a few tools, anyone could do it. The "put £500 of work in and sell it for another £1000" is a lot more 'everyman' than the big renos. Some of the big stuff was really good (electric Mazer) and I would have loved to see the Peking - Paris rally' but the old ones seemed to be cleverer as they really had to watch their pennies.

One reason I won't watch US restoration shows is that they don't show much of the work. There's too much fluff.

As mentioned before, Mark Evan's "A ..... is Born" series were much better.

BTW, is Henry Cole's The Motorbike Show still on?

Mark stuff was fantastic (and he is a genuine guy), but as you can see he doesnt do it anymore, as being too technical seriously reduces potential viewership, this is why all car shows are very poor in actual tech details - most viewer can not be bothered and just want to see the finished product or how much has been made from the sale/resto/flip l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l
