Different Canbus Systems?

Hi All,

I am attempting a couple of big mods on my MY02 l322 v8.

I purchased the deployable side step kit for >06 but knew the it would be some work to make it work. After asking around about can bus someone said there are different languages of can bus. so these may differ.

In my head I was going to rein the loom and give it a go.

I parked the idea for a bit as my new project started to come together - the BMW NBT satnav mod.

Now they claim that this works on MY02 >MY09.

You have to tap into the bus and the can bus for the to work and it get all the check control messages from the can bus.

Also I know the last of the BMW 4.4 v8 got the new instrument cluster.

With all this in mind would it be likely they use the same can bus system? I would find it strange they redesigned it for just 3 years. What I would have thought is they tart up some of the pieces then in 2010 they did their own redesign of the network ahead of the l405?

What are peoples thoughts?

If this is the case then the steps may not be as hard...

sorry to not let this drop - it looks like the conversions are done in the dash - is it possible to fit an 05 4.4 dash into an 02?

Hi alistair - not had a chance yet tbh still trying to finish my nbt retrofit which I started then it will be boating season so will be a while... I was looking at possibly using timers to deliver power to the steps manually to begin with and have then on manual up and down and go from there...
