United Kingdom 2017 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Santorini Black
Flat spot/hesitation at 1500-1700 rpm

My westie seems to have developed a bit of a flat spot at around 1500-1700rpm. Some days its fine but has become more frequent recently.

When I accelerate its fine at first but then when I lift off at 1500-1700rpm I get a strange sort of wop wop warble sound (sorry I don't know how else to describe it... Whistle ) and a momentary loss of power. This only last a second or so then it picks up the revs fine as if nothing is wrong. It does also happen at the same rpm when I am driving at a steady speed.

I'm wondering whether it is an injector issue, engine map, EGR or turbo wastegate (really what I mean is I have no idea how to narrow it down Rolling Eyes ) It idles fine too. On a petrol I would say it was like a timing misfire but that won't apply to a diesel.

Any thoughts before I bung it in the dealers? I always like to go with some idea so I don't get fobbed off as a new fattie owner with "Oh that's normal Sir" Shocked 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Good suggestion Graeme but top hoses were renewed a few months ago with another issue so unlikely to be them.

I could understand if it only happened when accelerating when the turbo pressure increases but it also happens when I am pootling along at a steady 70ish on the motorway.

Got the same. Very very occasionally I'll put the foot down - and nothing

Top man Stan Thumbs Up
Those threads do seem to describe the issue I am having, similar to the one you had at 80ish, and others too. Seems like a reasonably easy solution if it's a software update which the dealer can do easily. I will try and get hold of a copy of the TSB document for when I speak to them.

Fattie in for MOT today so got the dealer to investigate the hesitation issue. Told them what I thought it was (thanks all for info) so they checked it all out, cleaned the MAP sensor, updated the PCM software and (touch virtual wood) it seems to have solved the issue, at least for the 20 miles or so I have done since picking it up.

Now that's jinxed it..... Shocked Shocked
