Are trackers still worth it?

I just cancelled my subscription to tracker. They wanted nearly £200 quid to renew for a year.

Well, I look at it differently. Never had a tracker, don't want one. If it gets pinched I never want it back. Back in the 80's I had a car stolen and it was recovered 2 days later. Despite going through it with Dettol a few times it always felt soiled and violated. I sold it a couple of months later.

Not quite the same, but I've got a tracker on my caravan and get extra discount for it. But I've stopped paying for the subscription because you still have to tell them it's been stolen! It could be weeks before I know it's gone and it's in Russia by that time. Just all seems a bit pointless. Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

Also check how often the constantly monitored trackers are actually monitored. It would appear that quite a few aren't as closely monitored as they say they are. Current

I go against the flow here. for me its bit of peace of mind. My tracker was pre-fitted by the original owner. RAC trackstar cost me £140.00 per year which aint a lot in the big scheme of things. I can track the car on my phone and just feel better for it.

yes ok it can be jammed but the recovery rate is good and I for one would want the car back - its my pride any joy.

I doubt my £20k TDV8 will attract the high end thief - probably more of your inbred junkie so a tracker may well come into its own.

incidentally it made ZERO difference on my insurance policy and I decided to have it not the insurance co. Just down to personal choice like so many FF improvements of security measures.  405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

I'd have to balance the price of tracker and monitoring vs saving on insurance. (No savings? Then why bother unless your car is an unique, irreplaceable classic?)

I will be fitting a tracker soon to my FF just for my own use SMS sim card based cost's £40 ish from ebay can be hidden by yourself noone knows where it is

the tracker system I will be fitting can turn the fuel pump off with a text from your phone (or an other circuit)

Same here, insurance company wasn't interested whether I had a tracker or not so was up to me, I also looked at the TK102 / TK103 ones on eBay which you can move from car to car and then just pay as you go to track your vehicle as and when required. They do appear to offer a fair bit for very little money although you do have to do all the footwork like telling the police where your stolen car is etc. Steve

I went from a 2007 3.6tdV8 to a 2010 5.0 Supercharged Autobiography, no change in Insurance company, but they insisted I had a Tracker fitted otherwise they would not cover for theft! Personally I think its a bit of a con and the whole process cost me £600 with 3 years cover.
