Sounds like the 4.2 SC is ticking all your boxes Thumbs Up

I think you can also retro-fit the flappy paddles on the steering wheel if you want them. Very Happy

Hope you find one soon.

Don't forget also about the AJV8 4.4 jag engines version.

Not as fast outright as the SC but doesn't have a supercharger to go wrong...... arguably the most reliable of all the engines fitted. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yeah the 4.4 is always an option. 4.2 is the fav tho Smile I could get one at the real low end of my budget too but really only interested in '07 facelifts or newer. Found a beauty for 15-16k but it's hundreds of miles away.

Obviously you can only pick from the cars available at the time you want one. There will always be another along later if you are prepared to wait, but IMO the best cars are worth travelling for Tom. Obviously you need to make as certain as poss that its as good as you think before making the journey, but homework aside, a day out and a hundred quid or so is well worth it if it delivers the ideal result. Mine have come from Middlesborough, East Anglia, and Kent, all of which are a long way from Somerset! Just really annoying travelling to (eg Essex) if the vehicle is nowhere near as described... Mike - MPx

Fair play Mike. You're probably right. The drive home would be fun anyway. If it's available when I'm back from honeymoon mid May I'll be seriously considering it.

Absolutely agree. If you're buying a volume car (e.g Ford, Audi, VW etc) then you'll find one fairly locally but if you're buying a premium vehicle (like a SC Fattie Whistle ) then its worth the journey if it ticks all your boxes.

Good luck. Thumbs Up 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Well I'm officially on the hunt now. Seen 2 in my price range that look decent enough, but clearly nobody wants a 2.7 RRS in PX as getting the dealers to respond is painful Rolling Eyes

with the RRS try the webuyany car type website's, some actually give a sensible price

or could you maybe listed the RRS on auto trader sell privately, however you buy your car try and pay some of the new car on credit car or finance when you pay in these ways the finance company have a responsibility to make sure the car is right

for credit card its called section 75 not sure on finance company's term but do a similar cover

dealers have to give a warranty of 6 month's most will try give you 3 and most try to give you a 3rd party warranty which isn't really worth the paper it's written on

You could ask on here if someone in the area where it is could have a look for you. Most will do so and can give you an idea whether it is a dog or not before making a trip. John

Unnecessary quote removed

I was hoping to chop it in, whack some cash on top or finance the extra. Depends what the price of the car is. If I find a good car for ~12k I'll just pay cash. Good idea to check those car buying websites but they're only offering 'up to 7,500' which really isn't enough to warrant me selling. I should be looking at around 9,000 trade in value according to auto trader and the Land Rover garage round my way. I'll just be patient for now, but ideally I'd like to have one for when we go camping up in York mid July. Get to give it a good run out on a trip like that.

In my interviews everyone said the 4.2 is better than the 4.4. Dave T. Especially drove home this point because they don't have vvt which went wrong one one of my 4.4s and the engine has slight changes to make it "more reliable". everyone who really knows these cars like mechanics and parts guys and shop managers will tell you the 4.2 is the best in terms of reliability.

Look up some of Dave's posts on rangerovers.net he is a LR certified master mechanic. The 4.2 SC's also have a rear locker which makes a hige amount of difference offroad or on ice. It's really a different car to drive offroad with the rear locker OffRoadRover.com An American Western Range Rover Off Road Blog

England 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Bonatti Grey

Just following on from this rather than opening a new thread.........

My 4.2 SC (other than a reversing camera that needs sorting) is pretty much faultless (I hope I don't regret saying that!) but as an 05/55 plate car with 120k miles, it is getting on a bit and I am very open to upgrading it.

I like the 4.4 TDV8 and the 8 speed gearbox and other than the rear engine oil leak, I have seen nothing but good stuff written about them. I do less than 4k miles pa though so any diesel doesn't stack up for me plus the impending diesel gloom puts me off a bit.

The 5.0 SC ticks all the boxes apart from............this timing chain / guide issue which is really preventing me from making the switch. Can anyone tell me (in my basic terms!) why this doesn't happen to the 4.2, what goes wrong, typically when, any preventative measures and how much it is to fix please. I have heard stories of it costing around the £4k mark and upwards to put right! Shocked

As mentioned, my 4.2 is running like a peach (and I am convincing myself that one day the first, unmolested SCs will be collectable) but it's much older age-wise than something I want to rely on for family holidays etc.

Thanks in advance, Chaps! Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 SC

I’ll be really interested in thoughts re SKOT’s questions, as I’m in much the same boat myself, my 4.2SC just passed its MOT yesterday at 144000 and I’m reluctant to change it as all I’ve had go wrong in 11 years is the catalysts, which I’ve replaced and the deplorable steps, which I removed.
