RSE - Centre ipad project

Wanted to share my RSE centre iPad project:

Found an iMac type tablet stand.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01CRA...&psc=1
I wanted something that would look right next to the lovely RR interior materials. Especially the sort of gunmetal chrome around the rear of the console. This stand is aluminium and visually fits in very nicely. I can charge the ipad when needed from the centre console. Running twin bluetooth headsets, so it's completely wireless most of the time.

Personally, I think a single, larger centre screen is better than headrest screens.

I looked into headrest mounts. Couldn't find anything premium enough. The only ones I liked were the seat-back mounts LR used on the 'ultimate' edition. But can't find them online.

Above was my temp set up for journey with kids Cobbled with an occ. strap and anything I had with 30 mins to get
something rigged up. Got busy as soon as I got back with the proper solution.

Back to the 'real' solution, you can see the console lid opens normally

Removed the lid so I could tinker. In short, I opened up the gap by about 8mm between the upper and lower halves. Some fiddling with the stand and also the box lid internally. The stand is removable and the halves of the console lid spring back together when you remove it. Nothing's been drilled or cut (at least visibly). I've fitted enough electronics to know they change, die, or get superseded so wanted to be able to return it to normal at a later stage.

Here it is without the iPad. The mount can take all kinds of tablets so it's reasonably future proof.

Here you can see how it's been inserted in between the lid halves.

Can post more pics of how it's done if you like. Cheers, Greg

That's a very simple and elegant way to keep the kids happy in the back and, as you say, it does seem to fit in really well with the look of your fattie. Well done Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Can I ask where you sourced your tablet bracket?

Looking good.

If you had factory RSE like mine, you could still do that, plus feed it into the aux sockets in the rear and have it on the 3 factory screens and through the hifi.....

Thanks guys, I'm pretty pleased.

Rob: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01CRA...&psc=1

NMJ: Have you got the Nextbase Tablet Mount or the DVD players?

Project cost: £28 for the stand plus 2 x Bluetooth headphones. Total £60 Plus the iPad of course.

My daughter can also take her Kindle so I like the flexibility.

Good point - I do have AUX audio at the rear so I can at least feed the sound into the HD Harmon Kardon if I fancy listing to Despicable Me!

It's so nice back there with the electric recline seats now the centre screen - Problem is I don't get to ride back there.

. Cheers, Greg

Very neat, do you use a Bluetooth splitter for their headphones?

I have factory RSE in my 2005, what lead do you need to use for an iPad to do this?

Mr Tee: GREAT question - iPads or any idevice (not sure about android) only output to one bluetooth at any one time. I might go to a BT splitter (pretty cheap on amazon - for now I've gone for headphones that come as a pair. The first is BT and the second cables to the first.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01A6U...&psc=1
I've only one child so the two users will be very occasional. If it doesn't work I'll go for another bluetooth pair that advertised a twin set up working off iPads. So they claim anyway. All pretty cheap kit so will try various until got it all working nicely. I need to add some USB cables into the rear seat console or seat backs so the headphones can stay charged up.

zarnd: If you have the RCA aux plugs at the rear of your console, then all you need is a iPad cable to video/audio out.

. Cheers, Greg

I'm glad you didn't continue with the temporary set-up. It would eventually cook the iPad, having it shut in a plastic bag preventing heat dissipation.

Have got both the dvds and the iPad holders.

TBH the iPads are getting a bit long in the tooth, but for the minute they are still working fine, holders only fit iPad 1 so it's more an iOS issue with newer games etc.

I wish they did an updated holder for later iPads, but they don't!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Yeah that bag was just an emergency set up. Did have some vent holes!

Anyway new set up working great today on a run with daughter entertained in the back. Slight fail on the 12v usb adaptor - it's not a 2amp one so iPad wouldn't charge. Easily fixed for next-to-nothing on eBay....

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262676908405?_tr...EBIDX%3AIT

There are the headphones. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01A6U...&psc=1

They are bluetooth which was pointed out won't run dual headphones off an iPad. But they have a daisy chain repeater cable headphone to headphone. Will get used infrequently in that set up. So most of the time completely wireless. Works for me for now. And my daughter. A happy customer!

. Cheers, Greg
