Insurance company wants a tracker fitted?

hi folks,

was on the phone to the insurance company who say that they want a tracker fitted and gave me two numbers to call.

Know what are the Thatcham approved ones but is it a one of cost or do you also have to get a subscription on top of it?

Has anyone had it fitted?

Agreed that there would normally be an initial cost covering installation and a period of subscription and thereafter subscriptions on whatever period is chosen, the annual cost might be lower if you pay for a longer period up front. Cost will also depend on whether the service includes them calling you to say your vehicle has moved etc or whether they just react when you call them. I recall that LR said that only certain (maybe only one) product(s) were/was compatible with the LR guarantee, presumably on the basis that LR tested the electrics with that product and found it OK, they may just not have tested others. You might want to check with a LR dealer or LR Customer Relations which products are regarded as compatible with your car.

There have been name/business changes in the tracker sector so I'm afraid I don't know which companies are involved or current costs. Only Range Rovers since 1988

my insurance asked if I would consider a tracker / smart box fitted for cheaper premium. I thought about it for a while, then said ....... err ... no.
Perhaps I'm being a little suspicious but who knows what they'll do with this information when they have it, what would it be worth to a third party to know what, when and where I do whatever. Question

I'd change Insurance Co's - RR's are difficult enough without splicing into the electrics to add a constant battery drain.

cheers guys.. I think that's what I'll do.. they wanted another £146 off me because I had changed from my Shogun to this saying the usual speal about the factors involved bla bla.. got it reduced to £106 at the end. My insurance ends in Oct so probably will need to wait till them avoid any headache

I had a policy running with direct line when I bought my ffrr. They would not put the car on cover without a tracker so I cancelled the policy, got a refund less the admin fee, and the took out a full years insurance with admiral for the price of the refund plus what DL wanted extra for the 7 or so months remaining. In other words, I got a full years cover without tracker for what I would have paid for 7 months with a tracker.

Change companies, shop around and add your other half. Mine will never drive the car but I saved £200 by adding her as a named driver.

The trouble is I had IN10 2 years ago (allowed my bro to drive my car while I had hurt my back) so a lot of the companies didn't want to insure me.. Directline were the cheapest quote i could find.

At renewal it would be 3 years so I would deffo be finding another insurer. Just annoyed that that the insurance con was bad enough already that now we have to deal with the tracking drama with yet another subscription. It's getting beyond a joke now.

Directline have always insisted on a Tracker for my car, which is why I don't have insurance with them! Thumbs Up Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

maybe speak to them again and find out why they feel the need for a tracker ? older range rover's are not high on the steel list, you could fit a tracker personally to it that would track the car via mobile phone signal so no subscription just charges you when you request it's location would this do for them ?

i'm guessing they want the tracker fitted as you have requested fully comp ? could you maybe drop down the 3rd party fire and theft ?

^ I did, the reply was, "if you want us to insure you, you need a tracker".Could so easily have been followed by "coz that's what the computer says", so I chose not to waste any more oxygen Rolling Eyes Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue
