London congestion charge

We are driving down to "the smoke" tomorrow for three nights and don't plan to use the car between 07:00 and 18:00 each day until Wednesday when we leave London around mid-day. We will go for a drive one evening around 9pm.

I cannot work out for how many days I need to pay congestion charge, is it just for Wednesday because the TFL website states:

"The Congestion Charge is an ฃ11.50 daily charge for driving a vehicle within the charging zone between 07:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday."

I also cannot work out if the T-Charge is applicable - Ford Galaxy 2.0TD (the FFRR needs to stay at home to keep it safe)

Any help would be appreciated.

Only Wednesday if I've read it right. That is for a small central London area.

or do you mean the LEZ which covers most of London inside the M25 and is a daily charge.

Are you sure you will be going into the zone, you could Just park outside the congestion zone, the main congestion zone is pretty small, and easily avoided and well signposted on approaches. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

I need to go into the centre as we need to unload a ful car, kitchen sink etc. Regarding the first answer and LEZ I don't know what that is but my question could be simplified to: "What charges will I incurr by travelling into central London on Sunday and leaving on Wednesday and not using the car between those dates apart from in the evening.?"

I live inside the CC zone. You're good after 6pm. You can also park free on single lines after 6:30 most places If your put your car inside the zone after 6pm then don't move it you don't have to pay.

One easy way to avoid it is to aim to be at the border 6:05 then enter the zone Wednesday night, go to where you need, unload then find a car park to leave it. No CC to pay.

In your case, arriving Sunday - no CC to pay and you are leaving Weds so if you wait until 18:05 before heading out you have zero CC to pay - for any of the days. Even if you are parked on street. The only thing you need to watch is if you move the car, they have cameras checking not just around the border.

If you leave within the time Weds then you just have one day to pay - Weds.

. Cheers, Greg

Or if you can, park in the very under-used (and not too badly priced for London) Euston car park and avoid the costs altogeher.

I noticed that one is labelled just park. www.justpark.com is pretty good and the website shows you can do way better than ฃ24/day and also parkopedia.com Near Russell Square there is RCD - VERY good prices http://www.rcpparking.com/car_parks/park/7...Bernard+St

Do save yourself a day's rate and head into whichever underground parking on Monday night or early Tuesday as you will be able to park free as mention above Sunday night and all of Monday.

. Cheers, Greg

Thanks all, this is very helpful.

So, the plan is to sneak in today under the cover of Sunday and try to get street parking near the apartment we are staying in. Leave the car until after 6 pm Monday then go for a shortish drive round the sights when they are nicely illuminated, park up again. Finally move the car on Wednesday daytime and pay congestion charge for Wednesday.

The suggestions about carparks is really useful to me.

where exactly are you staying.

There are quite a few car parks in central London you could use but they are all quite pricey, especially for a longer stay. Beware of on street parking, it can be quite restrictive in terms of how long you can park for and the return times, better in a car park if you can find one near. But that depends on where you are.

There are quite a few NCP car parks in the centre of London, Brewer Street is in the middle of SOHO for example, and there is one near She If you go on the NCP website you can book in advance which will save a small fortune, and you can join the membership for free which will save even more money.

Also look at the Apcoahttp://citycentre.apcoa.co.uk website which is cheaper and also have parking which is bookable There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

Just a mention to be careful when looking at using a car park, some of them have height restrictions which might not accommodate an FF. John

We are staying on Queen Street, about midway between Cannon Street station and St James Palace.

Height should be OK as we will be in the wife's Galaxy, FFRR is too precious for this trip.

Hmm. Interesting choice of car. I would have thought you could pack more in an FFRR than a Galaxie, but it's great to hear your keeping the classics going. Thumbs Up
