MY10 TDV8 Fuel filter 10 years!

I have received a few bits from Dan which included a new fuel filter.

Now i read that it only gets changed every 10 years?

Iv'e put it on the shelf into storage.

I didn't realise it came has a complete unit, including cable and mounting bracket.

Can't say I'd wait 10 years to change a diesel filter, no matter what the maker said... remember this is the same people who said the gearbox was sealed for life....

You have it, why not change it....

Anyway you'll have lost it in 5 years Rolling with laughter Pete

It seems that you've been supplied with the filter assembly including sensor rather than just the element.

I'm not familiar with the TDV8's filter, but some cars now the filter is a complete sealed unit. Like the smaller HDI engines for example.

Citroen/PSA even started supplying the replaceable element fuel filters as a complete unit, on some of their engines, as reduces the risk of introducing contamination when replacing just the element.

These service intervals are all worked on on test rigs when they develop the engines. They run engines for long periods and measure the amount of wear and failures. This gives them an idea of the optimum period for changing service items. The longer they can make the intervals they cheaper it makes the car to maintain. To a certain extent the developments in new technology, synthetic oils for example mean you don't need to replace them as often as you used to. It doesn't do any harm replacing things early though.
