Deployable side steps - fitted and working to a 2003 L322

Hi all

Thought I would share my latest project, I have successfully fitted a set of deployable side steps to my 2003 L322. They operate exactly as they do on 07+ vehicles e.g. extend on unlocking, retract on locking and driving off. The only current limitation is they don't currently deploy when opening the doors manually if they are retracted. I am working on this part.

The steps use the cars communication networks to monitor the status of the car and the steps are completely factory standard, ecu, harness. The only difference is some wiring modifications and a bracket adaptation for the drivers side to work around the air suspension tank.

Here are a couple of videos and pics showing the steps working

Passenger side

Drivers side which is about 1 1/2 inches lower but I'm working to reduce this to around 3/4 inch.

Once I have ironed out the issues with the steps deploying when opening the doors, I will be making a parts list, and installation guide available for people that want to do this retro fit.

Excellent work! Would love to fit these to my 2006 SC! I didn't realise the pre and post 2007 models had a different location for the air susp tank.

Hey horse surely you don't need this diy if you have a 2008 should just be plug and play?

Also nice car choice pretty much as mine give a few years - what's better on fuel the v8 or v10? Current stable:
