Transfer Case Oil

hi folks,

I know recently we have had a few threads talking about the Transfer Case fluid and how its LR only part sold as Special Transfer Oil. Upon research I found some dealers also sell Castrol BOT026 as a genuine part. My local LR dealer stocks them.

I have also found that Shell TF0753 and Castrol BOT026 are 75w90 GL4. So thinking why the big fuss. Whats the secret there? Can we use the same oil we have for the front and rear diff as they are 75w90 fully synthetic too.

You guys might be thinking akh just get on with it and buy it from the dealer its only 1.2 litres.. but there is no fun in it Smile Current:

Doing the diffs and TB this weekend (then upto Craig's for a megaflush next month).

So just looking at what to buy myself... found this thread with the last post on page 1 by Advanced Factors.

yes and this was the thread I looked too and further affirmed this when a checked the info about BOT026 which confirms its a 75w90. My only reluctance was why the fuss? why would LR call it "Special Transfer Oil" anf hide the specs of the oil.

For the Front and Rear diff Ive got the Mannol 4 Ltr 75w90 Fully Synthetic which I plan to change now and once before winter as I dont think it has been changed before.

Whats the megaflush mate. Im planning to do a Forte Flush at the oil change Current:

I've gone for Fuchs stuff for the front/rear diffs/TB.

Always used it for racing and it's been spot on.

The "megaflush" is a full purge of the Automatic Gearbox that actually flushes out all the valves etc, rather than just draining the oil in the pan/sump. Gets 99% of the fluid out rather than about 50%. Current cars:

Including filter and oil it's just over £500.

Without filter is around £350. Current cars:

It's at just over 100k miles now and 8 years old. Pulling away from stationary is a bit lumpy and the gearchange isn't as smooth as I'd hoped.

Thinking that this is looking like a bunged up filter/old oil issue. A fluid change seems to have smoothed a lot of peoples boxes out. Current cars:
