Spain 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Zermatt Silver

Ok can i just ask, is it a hard job or not ? How is it done ?

Do i need to do oil AND filter or just OIL

What Oil ?????

What box do i have ?

If it is a ZF is that as in ZF engineerig ?

i do kind of agree that oil needs to be changed as like dan says OIL looses its efficieny over time.

If anyone feels like jumping on a flight and doing it for me !!!! Crack on !!!!!! 2007 TDV8 Vogue SE

David, you have the ZF 6HP26. You will need the filter and the oil. Personally I dont do this myself, I take it to a specialist. It is a common BMW box.

TDV8 with new 6-speed box at 50K should not need a gearbox service yet Confused

Why would you say that?

The ZF box never needs servicing according to BMW/Land Rover. Then it turns out it needs servicing every 60K. The GM box never needs servicing either, oh and then it turns out it needs servicing at 50K and now has a bad reputation for being un-reliable when it turns out the poor thing just wants clean fluid.

Gearbox oil has to work very hard, high temperatures can drastically reduce its effective life. Couple that with the fact it has to absorb the friction material from day 1 - unlike the engine oil that gets changed after the "run in" period. Gearbox tech may have changed (marginally) but oil is still oil.

From ZF:

“ZF 5 and 6-speed as well as the ZF 4HP20 automatic transmissions are filled maintenance-free with specially developed partially synthetic ATF oils. Maintenance-free fills are intended for normal operating conditions.

Especially driving at very high operating temperatures can result in accelerated aging or increased wear of ATF oils. It is recommended, in the event of severe operating conditions, such as :
- frequent highway driving in top speed range,
- offensive, sporty driving style,
- frequent trailer operation,
being above average, oil purification (oil change) on automatic transmissions is recommended between 50,000 Miles and 75,000 Miles, or 8 years, depending on the load.”

Considering the gearbox is a BMW car gearbox it is already on its limits. I cannot find specific mention to the ZF 6HP26 servicing requirements, only the 5HP24 which ZF specifically say is 60K - and the 6HP is a slighltly longer 5HP.

ZF seem to be saying 60k if the car has been driven hard or at regular high speed or has been used for towing or similar.

If this TDV8 has had normal use is 31/2 years old and has covered just 50k miles I certainly do not think it needs attention just yet. Maybe, just maybe in 25k.....

Of the times where it "went when it wanted to" how many of those had been serviced within manufacturers guidelines?

I paid circa £150 for mine to be done, the fluid alone would have cost me nearly £100...

I agree its worth doing in the right circumstances especially pre 2006 facelift jag cars, I'm just not ready to believe the ultra reliable 2007 TDV8 needs gearbox attention after a normal full service history 50k miles..... Neutral
