I'm afraid your thread title says it all..........learn the lesson and move on and put it behind you. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Hi ajac8 What leads you to think the story is not worth telling? "Surely to heaven we all know the pitfalls of buying a RR........" I take it that the "we" are those of you who live in the murky world of buying and selling of second hand cars whilst the rest of us try our best to get an honest deal from an honest seller.

For me it is not embarrassing to get the truth out there and then just perhaps one day the law might be changed in favour of the buyer instead of some crooked dealer. Some people are prepared to stand up and be counted and as a veteran, partially disabled war pensioner I have always been prepared to fight for the rights of citizens to live and enjoy an honest way of life.

Thanks for the good luck

Sorry don't take me the wrong way I feel you pain and if the seller was a dishonest crook then shame on him (although I doubt he would care) At the same time though common sense should always prevail and you have admitted to a level of naivety.

Lets not forget we are only getting one side of a story here and the courts have ruled against you; I get you are upset but your situation is one of your own making and i feel there should be a balance here. The seller was deemed not at fault.

Business to business transactions have no warranty's (you mentioned you purchased via a trade account?) Private to private sale buyer beware

Only time you have the law on your side is for retail sale, from a business to a private buyer, don't fully understand your purchasing position

The court did not rule that the seller was deemed not at fault. The ruling was that I had not provided enough evidence to prove my case. Not the same thing!

I don't think Ajac said that the court ruled the seller not to be at fault but "Deemed not to be at fault" and in fairness to him that's pretty accurate.

I speak from a position of having, just once been ripped off. The seller sold a car with warranted mileage (One of my sons GTI's) and it transpired the mileage had question marks surrounding it after I did all the checks. Tried to get my £500 deposit back and I'm still waiting. I found it difficult to let it go as I had access to free legal advice and representation and I felt like I'd been had over but in the end you just have to let it go for the sake of your own sanity

You have been through a lot and feel that you have been ripped off and for that I wish you the strength to overcome it but I think that you will heal quickest if you try to forget this episode in your life. This incident doesn't define you so move on and remember that Sh Censored t Happens.

Good luck with the sale of your project

Some very valid points throughout the thread and I do feel for the OP,

However buying a car without inspecting it from a private trader is barmy and whilst you don't deserve to be scammed you have left yourself wide open to it !

30 grand is a difficult thing to walk away from for anyone but in this case might be the best thing, personally I d be doing bird by now but then I m an idiot with a short fuse !

Wipe your mouth and be thankful for what you do have.

Have you ever thought about sending some money to a Nigerian "millionaire" who asks you for your bank details? If it ain't broken, fix it till it is.

you know what fellas, at one point, just before the case went to court, I was advised that if I would change my story and provide false evidence I had a 90% chance of winning my case. I refused to do that and lost. It seems it was easier to build a case on lies than the truth! Something very wrong there I think!
