8 speed gearbox oil flush recommendations and advice please

Hi all, I have a 2011 4.4 TDV8 with 8 speed gearbox (75k miles) and my local Indi has quoted me £450 to do gearbox mega flush but they don't change oil filter which seemed a bit dear. I am wondering if anybody can recommend someone near York to do a mega flush.
Or
Would It be better doing the 2 flush method and changing the gearbox oil filter (which I could do myself ) or getting the mega flush done and not change the gearbox oil filter?
Any advice or recommendations will be a big help as my last TD6 gearbox failed so I want to do preventative maintenance.

At that mileage you don't need to do two changes or mega flush. The correct ZF fluid isn't cheap though, I paid £230 for fluid and filter...
Just change the fluid and filter - and then the same again in another 75K.

The TD6 box was a GM box rather than ZF and probably never had a service etc.

Stu will tell you the details of a place in Selby.
If you have it done please update this thread because it is a job on my "pay to get it done " list.
It is quite a distance from me but I will travel if they will do it in a day.

Cheers.

I have just had my AFT and filter changed but no flush. Used ZF oil and genuine filter etc. £731.00 with the vat and worth every penny.

Having discussed in detail the process with 'my man' and read ZF's own instructions I'm not convinced its a DIY job or not unless you are very competent.

I used an indie near me so cant help with the location but I can say the flush seems a bit OTT to me. Mine has just broken 92k and the magnets on the old filter had just a very fine grey film on them. I am one who belives a flush can cause problems not solve them. just change the oil and filter Thumbs Up

get the stuff from Dan and get a price for labour from your local MD.

Mine did my 3.6 and it was about £100 and the gen bits from dan were not a bad price either, definitely worth checking out. I remember thinking it was cheap at the time. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Stu told me in a PM that he paid £450 for a Megaflush, which doesn't seem bad to me if they used the correct fluid/ oil.

Even at Opie special offer price , fluid alone is £270.
Then you need the special drain plug spanner?
Plus new filter ?.

Stu, is their anything you can add to this post? G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

Use code fullchat on opie for 10% off👍🏻

Iirc it's about £160 for the pan, £240 for the fluid, not sure it will require the full 8.5 litres as that presumably is the total capacity. So £400.

I reckon last time it was about £100 for the stealer to do it so looking at £500. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

£100.00 labour is v.cheap.

My bill was...parts £303.35 for oil and filter, £3.00 saundries, £3.00 waste

Labour £300.00

grand total £609.35 plus vat £731.22!!

Not sure £100.00 would cover it? 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

Sorry for the delay in responding been busy!
The guys at Selby are sponsors on the D3 forum and have done loads of the 6 speed boxes over the years. They are only just getting into the 8 speed boxes. They say that there is no need to change the filter as they have never come across a dirty one, hence just changing the fluid! As stated the correct spec fluid for the 8 speed zf costs a few quid on its own.

Anyway I was more than happy to pay them £450 for a good job, done in a short space of time. They also reset the gearbox ecu adaptations with their Autologic gear.

Personal choice really, but you will not get that much oil out of the box, just by draining it as the torque converter and oil cooler retain fluid, there is a thermal switch for the oil cooler which needs to be open.

Yet again I am very happy with what they did for me, the oil was filthy and it stinks! Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE
