What triggers the Inspection message on the dash

I had my 2008 RR Vogue serviced 5 months ago at my local garage. The Inspection message came up on the dash a week or so beforehand.
The car has run over the 2500 miles fine since but I now get the Inspection means get when I start the car.
What triggers the Inspection massage and can this only be reset by a main dealer ?

As I understand your post, you have done 2500 miles since the car was serviced 5 months ago. That seems to be rather soon for the inspection message to come up.

The message is triggered by the mileage run and your style of driving and the nature, eg. short stop and start trips will bring it up sooner than all motorway journeys. It should come on 1000 miles before the next service is due.

You say your "local garage" did the service. It may be that they didn't reset the service interval indicator not having access to the means if not an LR specialist.

It can be reset by other than the main dealer if, for example, you have a Gap iiD tool John

I thought the same that the local garage didn't have the equipment to re-set, but if a 2008, is the same as my 2006, then every time, I turn on the ignition, I get a message that it needs a service in January 2017. The guys didn't re-set the date last time, hence the warning every time I turn on.

I guess because yours is showing miles, it'll be different to mine.

By the way, I've lived with mine and will remind my indy to make sure it's done in January, at next service. 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

The 2008, mine anyway, shows nothing until the time for service is approaching. My MY2005 showed the mileage remaining to service for a brief time on the instrument panel when the ignition was turned on. John

Thanks for all your comments.
I called in my local garage and they have reset the Inspection function using their Snap-on diagnostic computer. I'll see how things go over the coming winter ahead of the next service/MOT next March.
