Failed MOT on Handbrake

Hi my 2011 4.4 Vogue failed its mot today, electric handbrake not working on offside rear wheel. With the rear wheels raised on the ramp, the examiner could spin the offside wheel with handbrake on. Any idea what's wrong. Sad

It is a twelve page description of how the parking brake works in the WM, but I would start by checking to see if the Bowden cable to the failed side is intact.

Have a read of this. Based on a D3 but ostensibly the same as yours

Was it an MOT done via a main dealer (and did you see the spinning wheel)?

Thanks for that. When I had a Discovery I used to follow Bodsey post all the time.

No not done at main dealer, a local MOT garage, charging £25, I watched as he carried out the job and he showed me the offside rear wheel turning withe EPB on. I am going to get my indie to fix it for me nect week and get a free retest if it is within 10 days.
I will report what the problem was when he fixes it.

Do the newer cars not have individual actuators on each calliper to alleviate the problems which they used to have on the early systems e.g. D3.

Please correct me of course.. Thumbs Up Current: TDV8 (3.6) RRS HSE

All sorted, it seems the cable that pulls the offside park brake on had slipped out of its little socket. My Indie could not throw any light on how it could come out, but it had. Anyway it is booked in for a retest and I hope now everything will be OK Thumbs Up
