Flappy Paddles

Hi

Is it possible to fit the gear change paddles to all models? Just seen a set for sale and thought crossed my mind.

Majority of the problem is there are insufficient connections in the rotary coupler to support the operation of the paddles. I have read one person managed it with a "trailing lead".

The following article may help: - http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic6133.h...ddle+shift

It's not possible on the TdV8 6-speed ... as I found out the hard way!!! Evil or Very Mad

Apparently it's a gearbox hardware issue ... Regards,
Mick

Really? If it's a true MY10 the box can have a hybrid firmware applied (GAP) which is what I did on my 59 plate Supercharged. This had the ZF 6HP28 box & factory paddles although it wasn't the TDV8, but IIRC the TDV8 on the 10MY (LCD dash is a good indicator) also used the 6HP28.

I believe the older cars had the 6HP26 which can also take paddles (available on the Jag XF since 07) but the canbus was not set up on the FFRR to accommodate this. The 2009 to 2010 change involved a major change to CANBUS, hence the 2010 cars can be done (I think)

The thing I found out is that the change from the 3.6 to the 4.4 TDV8 was done in 2 stages. One stage saw the arrival of a LCD dash and some rather wooden brakes but kept the 3.6 and had no shift paddles. This update did include the change of CANBUS standard.

The we saw the arrival of the 4.4 with the 8 speed box and paddles, and some better 6 pot brakes.

Might be worth checking with Bodsy or the GAP boys. They will know 100%

If I understood the article I posted. The guy re engineered the paddles to operate as simple switches, replicating the action of the gear shift in manual sport mode.

And that would work on the older cars which don't have CANBUS support for paddles, I recall reading the same thing, probably on here. But the 2010MY update saw CANBUS go to 11 bit from the older 29 bit system.

If (after removing the airbag) the steering wheel has the connector for the paddles, unless a later wheel has been fitted the odds are that it can be done.

Quite the quandary then! Will it be easily recognisable that the connections are there if i remove the airbag?

I'd like them for more gear control off-road than for sporty driving. __

Do you have the digital LCD dash? If yes you will be able to retrofit paddles. If you have the older analogue instrument pack you have the older 29 bit CANBUS which cannot accommodate paddles.

Under the airbag there will be a 4 pin connector which the paddles plug into.

from memory i'm sure you are automatically restricted to low gears in off road height so the paddles are a bit pointless for off road use, in fact they are totally pointless for a large suv like the FF... ... - .- -.

Oh I don't know Stan there's at least some point on-road. Part of the purpose of the car is to make us grin. Flapping down a couple of cogs in the SC before flooring it to pass slower traffic never fails to make me grin...... Mike - MPx

I have the LCD dash etc and the 6hp26 box according to TOPIX.

Regarding off roading, I think paddles are very useful, especially for ascending under control while keeping both hands on the wheel. __
