Aldi Battery Charger

I just noticed that Aldi have the battery charger on sale again at a good price. I don't even need one but I ordered anyway Very Happy Geoff

The Aldi/Lidl ones are fine and do exactly what they say on the tin. They have one downside. They revert to off after a power cut. That's fine if you are around and know you've had a power cut. You can re-set correctly. If the power cut comes in the first week of a 3 month trip, you come back to a flat battery.

Yes the C-Tek is a better piece of kit but then it bloody well should be at the price premium. I can't see anything that the C-Tek can do that the Aldi/Lidl can't. Perhaps the main difference, apart from price, is longevity....oh, and the C-Tek badge.

Porsche/Mercedes do a branded C-Tek at twice the price of the C-Tek. Perhaps that will be better still Rolling Eyes 2017 5.0 Autobiography Supercharged

I've had four Aldi units. Two have failed. As noted above, the Aldi chargers do not restart after a power failure. I came back from the UK/Europe after a 6 week trip to find my P38A battery flat (one reason I never used it to go to the airport and leave it there!). We'd had a power blackout a couple of days after we left for the UK.

I now have a CTEK MXS5.0 for the L322 (the CTEK can be switched for conventional or AGM batteries and I have 2 AGMs in the rear for my fridge, etc.). The 5.0 is just big enough. I probably should have bought the MXS7.0 but the 5.0 was nearly half the price of the 7.0

I have another CTEK, an XS0.8 for my motorcycle - it normally stays connected whenever it's garaged. Ron B. VK2OTC

I also use a CTEK but opted for the MXS10 due to better functions namely 10 Amp. No issues and searched the internet for the best price , think it was £90 from a battery company down in Portsmouth. It was a lot cheaper than any on Ebay or Amazon !

I use the CTEK MXS5 and its fine for my purposes, I don't need 10 Amps as I always tended to charge overnight through the trailer socket so I could lock the car, when I had a 3.6 Diesel (with FBH) now I just charge occasionally whether it needs it or not - being a petrol the new one has always started.
I have to say it has never let me down but then again neither has the Aldi one, although I only really used it once to see if it worked so I could keep it as a "spare" - it worked fine and I put it somewhere so very safe I can no longer find it. Very Happy Geoff

Aside from not turning on again as mentioned - and one with a broken button - they work well as maintenance chargers. They definitely don’t seem as good as a CTEK at getting a dead battery charging again though.

^ my experience also

I had a dead Optima battery in another car, the Aldi charger didn’t even recognise it as being connected, but the CTEK brought it back to life.
