For what it's worth, I had the problem intermittently for at least a few weeks before ordering the new switch. While the switch was in transit mine failed entirely and I couldn't get it to start. Luckily I was at home. I pulled the switch apart, cleaned the contacts, refitted and it's been perfect ever since (4 months or so). The new switch is now a spare for later... So if anyone is desperate, you can definitely clean it. Whether it lasts as long as a new one, only time will tell! -Justin

P.S. Of course if you can get a new switch before it fails, that's probably the best way to go. Smile -Justin

Thanks Dan for the swift service as usual, it came Friday and I fitted it yesterday and it's sorted it, I was tempted to clean the old one out but although it's not too difficult to replace it's not a job I would like to keep doing so now it should see the car out and for £99.50 imo it's not worth getting stuck out Thumbs Up

Dan,

I have a starting problem with our 2006 MY td6, sometimes it cranks over fine but there are no ignition lights showing, so I guess no fuel pump feed. Occasionally it will start fine. It seems like the ignition switch is a common failure, so I suspect it might be the culprit. Could you give me the current price for a new one, please?

Glen.

Hey, Judo. Thought I'd check in with you what the status of this was. I have the same symptoms you had and tried the same fix to no avail. How long did you find the switch to last after the cleanup?
