Velar

Hi, guys!

I saw my first Velar today.
How I hate the current trend for very high waistlines, and small windows! (To my mind, it makes the car look squashed …)

However, to my point: is it just me getting old(er), or are LR products getting to look the same? In the very old days, the Classic RR had such a distinctive look, the P45 also and I’d say the early L322’s. But now I can’t seem to tell the difference between the Fatty, the Sport and the Velar! (It probably doesn’t help that down here on the French Riviera they are (nearly) all black, but even so …)

Am I losing it?

It's "bébéchoon", ackcherly, with accents. 'Steve' to my chums.
20 years ownership of Solihull products, ALL GONE NOW, sniff!
Current motor: Suzuki S-Cross 4WD auto, 1.4 petrol. Oh so reliable! 5 years now and no problems. Oh, all right then, a leaking shocker replaced under guarantee.
Previous:
TD6 HSE L322 Auto FF
2.5 TDi 4-door Classic
Disco II
And my 1st Rangie: in 1995, a 2-door VM 2.5 diesel Classic
Not to mention the Lada Niva before those. (I said not to mention it!)

Until LR greatly expanded it's range of vehicles, the RR had nothing to look the same as.

Like I've said here before - draw one set of plans, acquire 1 photocopier, adjust zoom settings, call it a new model.

I agree that LR have lost the plot a bit. The 405 was an acceptable departure from the previous designs but has spawned so many wannabe models its laughable.

The Evoque convertible being the biggest laugh of all. A 'Range Rover' my ar*e. 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus
93 RR Classic efi

Remember it's easier to get forgiveness than permission!

Gone in order:
4.4 TDV8 SE - gone to a good home
93 Classic hard dash Plymouth Blue
03 L322 Oslo Blue
2000 Disco TD5 ES Epsom Green
98 P38 Rioja Red
89 Classic Cairngorm Brown

From an enthusiasts point of view yes, but as a business model they're definitely on the ball. Mass produce similar models on the same theme to capture all the possible market. Produce and sell them as fast as you can until the bubble bursts then sell the company, or fold it making even more money.
The bubble WILL burst, if only for the reason that no one will want to spend 100k + on a motor when there's a dozen on the local council estate. Another BMW in the making, LR's will become a motor most folk wouldn't dream of buying.

But, JLR will make hay while the sun shines, and who can blame them.

I saw a Velar on Sunday and thought how good it looked.

Would I have one? No. Alex

I like it when I see it ...

... until I see an RR Sport or FFRR ... at which point I like them more. V8 or else ...

Went to the official Velar unveiling here. Nice looking cars. Good leg room in the back, even with the front seats back. Really well done. Definitely rather pricey. A little boy climbed in one, started pressing buttons on the touch screens and loudly announced that it was better than his games console. JLR know their market. Mr. Green
I’ll be interested to see how the design cues (flush door handles, multiple screens) look when they get to the L405 and the Sport. Now that will be interesting.
