I've never used any in Bordeaux, but it kind of depends what you want.

In France, I always use Accor Hotels and figure out the location I want & best hotel from there - but I'm usually after overnight stops so just looking for somewhere cheap & near an autoroute exit.

Must admit Alistair as we have gone round France looking at areas I usually use their Mercure Hotels as they are cheap enough and the standard is usually the same - so we don't get influenced by the Hotel. Will probably do that and do 2 or 3 days in La Rochelle then same in Perigueux then the rest in Bordeaux. They all have a Mercure

If you become an Accor member they offer you nice discounts and upgrades and citybrakes. Enjoy your trip, don't forget the saturday morning market in Perigueux and while you're on the way to Bordeaux to visit St. Emillion.

Agree for the chain hotels but for privately owned hotels, especially the smaller ones, it is worth asking direct as they are often cheaper. John

Update on trip it was busy as took in La Rochelle Dordogne and Gironde driving around every day but well worth it as we feel we may be narrowing the search for an area to buy in and at present are looking at the Gironde so the next trip will be one where we base ourselves there for ten days or so and might manage to reduce the area again
Had a good visit yo St Emilion including lunch and a bit of wine buying - thank you for the tip Robert
