Strange Happenings Today...

Went to get the Sunday papers this morning. All fine on outward drive. Got back into the car at the paper shop, turned ignition on and the Hazard flashers started.

Thought I must have pressed the button inadvertently, so turned them off. Drove away and then noticed the interior lights were on. Definitely didn't switch them on! So switched them off.

Back home tried to lock the car. Chirp sounded but locks did not engage. Eventually after several tries, locks did engage.

Fired up my IID tool, but no error codes thrown.

All very strange.

Gremlins do you think?

It thought you had an accident! Hence the hazards & not locking (obviously if your injured inside)

Battery volts during starting cycle??? How old is said battery?

@ CTC. Battery is 3 Months old. Voltage displayed at 14.4 volts on BT IID Tool.

Aren't the interior lights on a normal mechanical switch ?
Could you have left them on which drained the battery a bit causing your other gremlins ?
The 14.4 volts , was that with the engine running and the voltage is actually the alternator output?
If none of the above I would call a priest ... Smile

I think the alternator varies output to match load / charging requirement mine shows between 13.7 and 14.5 it varies new alternator and new battery - it shows more if the battery is low might be worth checking. What does it show first thing in the morning before start up?

I've had the same thing occasionally, just posted about it last week, no definitive cause or cure, but the FF thinking it was in an accident was also suggested.

Thanks Hamlet. exactly the same thing. Car running normally today (so far!).

Voltage this morning with engine not running was 11.8 Volts. Think this is OK.

I await the next worrying glitch. Confused

If 11.8 volts (engine not running) is not OK, what should it be? How far off is it?

Fully charged automotive batteries should measure at 12.6 volts or above. When the engine is running, this measurement should be 13.7 to 14.7 volts.

Ok. Thanks Sandyt. Mine shows 14.4V running - so that's OK. But it does seem a tad low when not running. It's going in the main LR dealer soon for an MOT. I'll get them to look at it.

Don't leave it too long as a duff battery will eat your alternator and they are circa 700 quid Shocked
