FBH : Is there a sequence I am missing ?

Having worked out the sequence last year to a successful warm car using the FBH I settled
contently drinking my freshly brewed coffee and silently smirking as my neighbours shivered while defrosting and scraping their cars this morning. I decided to leave a little later as my car wouldn't need defrosting and checked all my messages on social media etc...

Got in the car and it was freezing and to top it all the fan started up as I sat in the seat. Does anyone know of any method to ensure the heater works, last year I opened the car using the fob, locked it again and then pressed the RCU which flashed Green to say that it was working, same method this morning but nothing until I sat in the seat when it was time to leave. I know the plumbing works so I must be missing something, the heat settings were on full, the light flashing green....I have checked the posts and it appears most people have issues with it not physically working but I know mine does but it is just getting it to kick in....Any advice welcome....Thanks I need more help than most...sorry !!

Hi - Can only suggest you try again tonight - something might be a bit reluctant to start again after a long period of inactivity.

One thing you mentioned - the RCU light flashing - mine gives a single long flash to start - you could try a manual start via the screen to see if it's a remote problem..

-3.6 here last night so mines in full use at the moment!! lol

I reckon your battery is shagged
The unit starts up and then shuts down due to low voltage
Opening the door wakes the unit up again which is why you hear the fan when you get in

I set the Timed Climate for 5:50am and nothing happened. I turned all the heaters to max even the hot/cold dial beneath the outlets...

The only thing I noticed was that the external temperature was 9 degrees, does it have some sort of rules i.e. it won't start if temperature is above a certain level....?

I have read the supplement bit in the book but it doesn't mention anything...

Still under warranty so probably off to the Dealers....and will also get battery checked…! I need more help than most...sorry !!

Got this from the webasto T91 instruction manual,

https://www.webasto.com/fileadmin/webasto_...rt-t91.pdf

you might want to try a re pairing with your key fob

The LED on the transmitter
lights up for 2 seconds:
red = Heating mode
green = Ventilation mode*
The signal has been received and the heater /
vehicle fan switched on or off.
The LED on the transmitter
flashes for 2 seconds.
Error during signal transmission.
Change your location and repeat transmission. 2006 RR sport HSE

Thanks for the info on the key fob, the procedures are a little different on mine but everything seems ok. I tried it last night directly in the car ( no RCU ) and that didn't work either so I assume something more sinister...It has always been touch and go and last year I thought I had a fool proof way but now that doesn't work either.... I need more help than most...sorry !!

All of you have newer vehicles than me, so can I expect my 2004 Vogue to work, or not work, in the same way?

After being rung by my daughter at 0610 this morning to go round and let her and husband out of their bedroom (don't ask), I thought it would be an opportunity to try the FBH ready for starting the FF at 0700.

I have no fob and am not sure that FBH is fitted, so switched it on via manual (ie not timed). When I took the key out of the ignition, the fan started blowing cold air. When I returned 30 mins later, the fan was still blowing cold and no sign of heated screen or mirrors. On starting the car, the fan stopped and the fbh appeared to be cancelled.

But now, the selector will only let me select timed settings and won't settle on the bottom manual setting to enable fbh manually.

Daughter bought me the GCHQ book of puzzles last Christmas. I've solved several of them. The FFRR is more difficult. Old 110 2.3 Petrol ???? - ????

there is no special sequence, you press the button on the remote and it either works or it doesn't, don't need to unlock the doors etc.

if yours isn't firing up then the chances are that the battery is getting low. It has a power management system which will prevent the FBH working and draining the battery below the threshold required for the engine to start.

stand there in the evening/morning when its chilly and the car is cold

with the car locked press the go button on the T91 remote.

you should hear the following

1, the fans start to hum a bit
2, there is a faint ticking from the rear as the fuel primes
3, fan rate goes up
4, burner lights
5, you can hear a small jet engine sound from under the pass wheel arch as the burner stabilises.

try that if it runs then you have a winner
if it doesn't then its time for some further checking. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Of course, the real reason the fbh's are so troublesome is the simple fact webasto are junk. There's a reason 99% of trucks use Eberspacher, and it isn't because of cost. That's the top and bottom of it.

Having read the document that Zeppfish sent, ( very informative, thanks ) it appears that my battery in my RCU is showing low however I did go to the car and press it right next to it and got the green light, then a small hum from the heater and the blower turned on with a few lights on the dash. Went inside, waited 15 minutes and came out to a freezing car again...the blower was just blowing cold air, same results if I use the Climate control in the settings....

Think there must be a fault so back to Dealers...

Thanks for all the help though, as always greatly appreciated !!!! I need more help than most...sorry !!

I know you are going back to the dealer and his car is a bit earlier than yours but this post by jonnyboy54321 gives a very good insight on how the FBH works.

I believe the FBH locks out after three unsuccessful attempts to start it so not necessarily something wrong with it.

Reasons for not starting can be as simple as exterior temperature too high or cabin settings incorrectly set.

They can be re-set by removing and replacing the fuse and force-started using the diagnostic machine at LR or independent specialist ....I don't know if the Gap IID would do it.

My FBH was declared faulty, needing two days work plus parts by one garage but I convinced another garage to try a reset and force start it.....it's fine now.

tried yesterday with the remote ( new battery and made the right flashes ) but freezing when I got in....Last night I used the internal Climate Control and it worked this morning, nice toasty car, no defrosting etc... So it does work but intermittently, all cockpit settings were the same but this time it kicked in....weird !! I need more help than most...sorry !!

if the red light is flashing it probably needs pairing again with the module in the car. it should come o with the orangey/greeny light and then switch to green when it has registered the signal.

you need to pull a fuse, don't ask me which as i can't remember, then put the fuse back and press and hold the off button for a specific amount of time more than x seconds but less than y seconds. its on here somewhere I'm sure!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
