I’m not quite sure if my auxiliary input is working and was wondering if there is a way to test it.

I bought a 3.5mm, male male cable, to plug into my iPhone 7 (using the iPhone headphone adapter) and then plug into the aux in socket.

Chose some music on me Phone and selected aux in on the touch screen, but no sound.

Is it possible to play music this way?

Thought this would be an easy project

Any help appreciated.

i'd try a different input, maybe a mp3 player? ... - .- -.

ive a splitter in my cubby box the one goes to the bluetooth sender and the other a lead and some times i plug the old ipod in,that works fine, no saved music on my phone but can play the tune-in radio app through the lead on my 6plus iphone with no issues have you checked the volume up i forget at times. _____________________________________________________

You should be able to stick a 3.5mm jack cable into the socket, turn the volume up and hear a hum when you grasp the other end of the lead with your fingers, effectively shorting out the input.

If you don't hear the hum, then the socket may be dead.

There is a bit of chatter (google) about the 3.5mm output not always working correctly (or at all) on iPhone 7s. The check recommended by Mike is a good one if theres a buzz the the car end is OK Geoff

Seems it could be my iPhone having intermittent problems.

Yesterday no work, today work.

I did however do an update on the phone (bug fixes apparently) so maybe that has solved it.
