Hi
Have had problems starting recently, cranking time varying from 20 seconds to a couple of minutes.
My initial thought was glow plugs, however when the diagnostic reader was connected it said low pressure on cranking.
Any ideas what this could be?

That would be your fuel pumps, probably the one under the rear left passenger seat (outside the car!)

The old leather mallet trick might work.....for a while


Glow plugs unlikely to have any impact on starting issues at all in our climate (-10 to +30)

Might also want to check your injectors .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Two fuel pumps and a set of injectors later and it starts!
However consumption is down and the engine now has a pinking/clattering noise. And the fuel pump is noisy.
Could this be over fuelling and do the injectors need programming?

Something is more than likely not right with an injector if it is now noisy... Timing etc.. could even be detonation caused by an injector problem. You don't have to program them.. i replaced a bad injector on one of my old TD6 cars and it was perfect afterwards, Check for smoke whilst driving etc too

If the noise happens at idle you can remove the injector plugs one at a time and thru process of elimination find the injector causing the noise .. then go see your injector shop you bought them from and ask WTF!
