Discovered today how the residual heating worked

Had seen the "greyed" out Rest button on the climate screen before but that was with the engine running.
Engine off media screen on and pressed the Rest button on the Climate page doh! I guess the clue was in the word residual. Handbook not very clear.

Very useful feature when sitting in car parks waiting for her shopping. BMW X3 30e XDrive M Sport

Great feature my new 2017 VW California Beach has it and gives back engine heat for up to 40 minutes! Just press "REST" button when engine off.

I can’t work out how to use the ‘rest’ feature in my MY17? There doesn’t seem to be a button for it. I have the remote heat through iPhone etc but that is with the engine running. My car doesn’t have the auxiliary FBH option. Anybody know how to use the rest heat after the engines off?

MY17 seems different. With engine off and climate page it won’t let you turn it on. Unless with engine off ignition must be totally off too?

Ok for the system to work the car must have been on a long enough journey to bring the engine temperature up to normal.

Turn engine/ignition off.

Turn radio on - not ignition. Same as you would if you wanted to play music when parked up.

Scroll to climate page and hit the rest button. BMW X3 30e XDrive M Sport

This works a treat on my L322 MY12 Westie. Thumbs Up

Just press the Max AC button when the engine is off and it rewards you with a waft of warm air to keep you toasty. Very Happy

Think it runs for about 20-30 minutes but you have to press the button within a minute or so after engine switch off. 2017 4.4 SDV8 Autobiography

Apologies just checked and I cannot see this option in the MY17 manual !

Seems strange that this useful feature has been removed..... BMW X3 30e XDrive M Sport

Nope, tried that. MY17 has a climate page but no rest button.just a climate on button which keeps defaulting to off.

Hmm, surely the MY17 car still has the ‘rest’ function for heating? Seems strange to remove the feature?

Gents, I’ve studied the manual etc and I cannot find any way of turning on a ‘rest’ function when the car is off. Is this missing for MY17 cars? There is no mention in the handbook. Grateful for any thoughts!
