I too have found Tesco Insurance markedly cheaper, currently using them on a 2007 SC. I do wonder if they're land grabbing business as a strategy.

Tesco seem to be very competitive at the moment, moved to them at the end of last year after 8 years with Admiral/Elephant. Cheaper by well over 150! Tom

I'm another one for Tesco, 300 for the TDV8. Cheapest I could find.

Just renewed mine with Hastings Direct.
The renewal letter quoted a 17.5% increase from last year.
Tried Compare the Market, Tesco, Saga and Direct Line...all were even more than the increased renewal price from Hastings.

I rang Hastings anyway expecting a fight but they immediately knocked 62 off just for me asking.
So my renewal was 400 (just 1.4% increase over last year).

I can't understand why they risk losing customers with such a steep increase...I can only assume that plenty of people just cough up without a fight. If it ain't broken, fix it till it is.

Scotland 2008 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Java Black

Just got my renewal in from Tesco, £486, up from £430 last year, with no change in my circumstances.

Went onto Money Saving Expert, initial quote with the same excess as the renewal was £317. Opted to increase my voluntary excess to £250 from £200 and got it down to £306 - with Tesco!!! Censored

Called them up to ask why there was such a disparity between the 2 quotes. Their response was that my renewal would have been calculated 28 days ago and the market changes quickly. “By nearly 40%”, I asked. Got a woolly answer and they honoured the online quite. What a load of BS! They clearly hope people are too lazy to investigate other options and stay with the same insurer at whatever quote they give at renewal time.

Moral in that there story! Thumbs Up Got - 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE in Java black

I'm amazed you managed to get through to Tesco. I've been trying for a few days now.

Sorted mine yesterday....paid £490 last year....renewal came through at £509..... went on go compare and cheapest £620.... not right I thought....

Went on compare the market and cheapest £416..... realised I get 10% off with AA, so ended up paying £374 after a chat....

Happy bunny....

Just a nuisance to have to shop each and every year.

I was with admiral , then pushed it up to about 650.. ended up with Hastings around 400...(ish )

If they had left it at 500 ish, I probably wouldn’t of looked.

For the new car, I had a quote at over 10,000. I guess they just didn’t want the biz niz Rolling with laughter

Honest answer Baltic, NOTHING.....

I think the Westie is a better car, bells and whistles on the new one...but for driving the old one feels better.. might be me and just getting used to the new beast, normally takes a while...

To answer the question that keeps getting asked, insurance companies normally lose money on the premium that they collect in year one. To stay in business, they need to take a view that they will make a living through cost increases in years 2 and 3. As long as only a small number of people do what we all do every year, then it works. They could keep the price in line with their first year’s price and they’d, likely as not, keep most of their renewal business but go bust in the process! Rolling Eyes

If everyone shopped about and switched after year one, then these good first year rates would have to disappear.
