done mine on the weekend and only found a tiny bit of rust which was good [ allthough the previous owner of mine was from wimbledon so may never have seen any mud ] while i was at it i removed the front liner as well its supriseing the amount of hidden voids there are on an l322 , then i sprayed inside the arches and behind the cill trim with waxoil before refitting Very Happy 1990 3.5 v8 defender

After receiving approval for the tailgate, my FF finally goes in on Monday for the new panel to be painted/fitted. Existing trim/screen etc gets refitted, but new screen seal and upper badges.

As part of the same job, the bodyshop are kindly going to sort out the very minor spot of rust on the inner edge of the rear wheel arch and remove the rear liners to inspect and protect anything else that's going on under there.

Hope they make a decent job!

Just thought I'd post an update on this....

New tailgate now fitted and underside of rear arches re-painted. Very pleased indeed. The friendly folk at the bodyshop also gave the full car a machine polish so it was looking lovely for all of ten minutes before I drove home on the salted and slushy roads.

I just had my offside front wheel arch cover off as part of the dreaded tdv8 alternator replacement, arrghh! see separate posts....

I noticed some surface rust on the side, top and seam of the offside chassis leg. Not really good enough for a
>£60k premium car!!
No under-seal to speak off, further inspection revealed quite a bit of surface rust on the chassis underneath, the sub-frames, gearbox frame, air vessel etc. A bit disappointed to say the least Sad

You could write your name on the under-seal of my 1991 Mk1 golf convertible!!

Range rovers are turning into the 'Alpha Romeo' of SUV's. Iffy build and reliability, but everyone luvs 'em!! Shocked

2006, Ford came along and bought the tin worm with them... I don't know if they changed suppliers, procedures or what, but the post interior facelift cars are far worse for rust then the pre internal facelifts in approx 2006/7 Rolling Eyes

On my '52 plate both sides of the lower arches were extremely bad (pushed finger through Shocked )so I had the old metal cut out and new metal welded in and then paint - also for the rot on the tailgate - prices £370 each side for arches and £230 for the tailgate . I am extremely pleased with the result and you would not know it was not original Thumbs Up Since treated with copious amounts of Waxoyl and Bilthamber Thumbs Up The company that did my work was Just car clinic Bow down

Just looking for a solution to this problem , I won't be tackling it until the weather warms up though

Has anyone found a repair panel , this is the only significant rot on my 2003 HSE

At present we have no plans to supply repair panels for L332 RR

I would imagine the parts are all pressings, so the set up cost would be significant and hard to justify as you maybe only the 2nd customer to ask for this repair

As we don't have a L322 RR, we have nothing to check against

You maybe best asking L322 RR owners club to see who they recommend for a repair for this

Spotted bubbling on both rear arches late last year. Had it into a body shop this week for remedial works. The bloke said that mine were in the very early stages so hopefully shouldn't be any follow-on work anytime soon, He'd had a Supercharged in a couple of months ago and that was a crop out and weld a new section in job! Previous cars:
S-Max 2007-2013 (only diesel I've had, good car but expensive when diesely bits go wrong, so what's the point?)

Unnecessary quote removed

Wack61, did you find a solution to this? I'm facing the exact same problem with my '52 plate RR, took the wheel off to try and replace the ABS ring (it took me about 2 weeks of effort and 3 different pullers to get the hub off!) and found similar, if slightly worse rust than yours above. I have been searching and searching for a repair panel, but no such luck. At this point the cost of welding, putting through MOT and continuous upkeep makes it tempting to just scrap the car but......I love it too much! Rolling Eyes so would be interested to know where you got to with it

Maybe search for the thread "skinned quarter" which shows the sort of thing. Note the comment that this section of the car is structural and hence need to weld in, I expect it's not a cheap job, especially in the context of a car with the level of rust to need it. Only Range Rovers since 1988

The part numbers for the whole rear side body panels appear to be:

ALA760150
ALA760160

but the price is at about £1.5k Shocked


They do seem to appear on ebay and the like ... there are a couple of them for sale there at the moment after searching "L322 rear quarter"

I really must look at mine and check them out. V8 or else ...

Just checked mine and they look pretty bad. Quite a lot of bubbling. Could anyone tell me if this is beyond a DIY job? If its salvageable a guide on how best to tackle it would be great, if not whats the cost of getting something like this looked after professionally? Big Cry Big Cry

If you have the right tools and know what you are doing its a fairly easy job.. just time consuming and weather needs to be right.

Take the plastic trim off.. sand down the bubbling.. treat the rust.. filler.. sand down.. primer... sand down wet and dry.. thinner to degrease the basecoat followed by top coat..

Access to a garage will help to avoid the cold weather and other contaminants in the air. Current:
- L560 Velar HSE R-Dynamic D180
