Burning oil smell

Help
Ive just driven up the side of a fairly steep mountain road in spain and when i got to the top my 10 plate 4.4tdv8 was smelling rather hot temp gauge was normal so i pulled over . Then the cabin started filling with smoke so i poped the bonnet and smoke was coming from the rear of the engine
Any ideas where to start please
Thanks
Paul

Sounds like the common oil cooler seals , or the pipe at the back of the engine leaking that Craig mentioned on here a while back.

I agree with Paul.
Have you checked the oil level ?
If it has been leaking for a while you could have a build up on the plastic under tray which has run down on to the exhaust on the steep incline ? G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999

It’s the oil cooler itself that cracks I believe. Just doing seals won’t be enough....the oil rings on the pipes that can also be an issue shouldn’t let that much oil out......

Your oil and coolant levels still good? No cream?

Could have been from when they did the repair with old oil still there? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

If you have just had the cooler seals done then I would be looking at the 2 orings at the back of the engine. Easy fix for next to no money. Craig has a thread on it. The orings are readily available on the net and upgraded viton rings are recommended!
