A shame it's not so tuneable then. The results seem to be amazing if you are prepared to take the risk.

Are there many documented instances of gearboxes failing after a map? 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone

I have only found on mention of gearbox failure in my 4.4tdV8 Fault Log.

Mark A reported a replacement gearbox on his unmodified 4.4 tdV8 at just over 100k Miles.

The remap isnt for speed , thats what superbikes ( and F1 cars , if your a billionare) are for , driveability is ( for me ) the responsiveness of the various controls. The 4.4 throttle feels wooden, my 3.6 ( after remap ) felt smooth but responsive. If you have ever driven a real sports car the controls very informative, from the steering to the foot controls and feedback from the suspension. While the wafting feel of the FFRR is fantastic a more responsive throttle and brake pedal feel are what i prefer.

However after all thats been said i certainly dont want to risk the gearbox. With my remap on the 3.6 i went for the mid range map, they offered 3 maps , mild , mid range and maximum. 2015 4.4 AB

I understand this and agree.. while it may have plenty of power, is it available in the right places and when you want it? It may have 700nm but for only a short span.. if it had 700nm throughout the rev range it would drive different. A map can also change the way the turbos come in, full boost from the go instead of a linear increasing curve for example, without increasing bhp or torque.

For the record, I have a 996 Turbo for going fast in..it has been mapped from 420bhp to around 500bhp.. everything is else is slow by comparison. 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone

I'll wait and see how it drives and then decide how or if it can be improved. Having had a few of the exact same model of a car in the past, I know they can drive slightly different from one to another depending on mileage and care.

I remember the e39 5 series had an adaptive autobox that adapted to your driving style. If you bought one that belonged to Miss Daisy for 10years, it would benefit from a reset (ignition on and hold acc pedal to the floor for x amount of time, etc.). I don't know if the range has this feature, I guess you guys would know all about it if it did.. 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone

Porsche sounds fun !!!! You bang on regarding the remap , it more about how it feels that times or top speed.

The gearbox is a concern though. I see different zf 8 speeds have different ratings. 2015 4.4 AB

I bought my Westminster which had already been mapped by the previous owner. I test drove a couple of stock 4.4s prior to buying mine, and I could immediately tell the difference.

The remap was done by Celtic Tuning taking the torque to 800Nm.

I drive it very gently, but it's nice to know there's plenty in reserve especially for towing the tin tent, and I keep my fingers crossed the gearbox is healthy! 2012 Westminster 4.4 TDV8 (sold)
