4.4 TDV8 oil change with electric pump

Hi all,
I serviced the fatty at the weekend. So much easier than i anticipated. Im quite looking forward to doing it again next time!
Ive only ever drained oil out of sump plugs before. But on this i thought i would do it the 'dealer way' and make use of the standpipe on the engine to suck the majority of the oil out, draining the last pint or so from the plugs.
This is the pump i bought: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01KO7...&psc=1
It included a selection of hoses and soon found a combination that fitted the standpipe nicely.
Took the fatty for a ~4 mile drive to get the oil to about 40-50degs and it sucked the lot out within minutes!

Cheers,
Will Thumbs Up

At main dealears prices for the job, your pump has already paid you back after only one change.
I intend doing mine when it is due after Easter.
If you stood a couple of empty 5 litre containers in your bowl and filled them as it was draining, you would have no mess at all to clear up. You can dispose of old oil free of charge in 5 litre containers at my local council rubbish yard.

Ive got nothing against main dealers, i just prefer to do things myself. I really care about my cars, and take great pride in maintaining them. If it means buying/making a few special tools or equipment its just part of ownership! MY11 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE

I agree completely, and at least you have the peace of mind knowing that you have filled it with the right specification oil.
I got 10 litres of Shell AF “L” and filter from Opie delivered to my door for less than £80.

You can get Shell AF-L from MyTyres online for £27 per 5 litres. The Castrol noted in the handbook I believe is now not available. Chris

That looks much easier than the big hand pump ones. What type of battery is that you are using to power it a motorbike one or something?? Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

The name of the Castrol oil has changed from what the handbook called it, yes.
Castrol is still available, as the stealers still sell it for a fortune.
And yes, I do know shell make the AFL.

Does anyone know where to get the Castrol....?

forget branding you've been brainwashed with marketing

as long as the spec is met it doesn't make a difference whose name is on the front of the bottle

Castrol edge professional titanium FST C1 if you really want Castrol. Cheaper alternatives like Euro Car Parts Triple QX also do a C1 to the right spec. You’re best bet is looking on the Opie Oils website for a good selection. Just make sure it’s to the Ford WSS-M2C934-B spec if you’ve got the 4.4 TDV8. Chris

I've often been puzzled by this point. Some posts on here will advise "you must ONLY use this oil, nothing else will do!", but surely it's just a case of conforming to spec? If a fluid meets the manufacturer specification, who cares what brand it is? Especially true with bottles labelled "special Land Rover oil" costing £35 per litre, given that LR don't make oil in the first place!

Oil company marketing plain and simple
If the spec is to requirement or higher and the oil is cheaper get it in!!
Do not think you're doing your vehicle a favour by buying the most expensive , it only wants the correct spec it doesn't care who sells it.
So why should you?

You may have had all sense brainwashed out of you. speak for yourself
Very Happy
Personally I have seen no marketing for this Castrol oil

3 out of 4 of my last services done by my indie used the shell AFL.
I was simply asking where the Castrol could be obtained.

Don’t recall saying anywhere that I wanted to put it my RR.

Now.
Anyone know where you can get the Castrol please?
Yes, I know the AFL from shell is equivalent broadly speaking.
Yes I know the AFL is a lot cheaper.

Yes. I was quite happy with the AFL.
No. I didn’t say I wanted to use the Castrol

Thank you.

Its just a 12v battery from a little golf cart. Next time ill just use the vehicle battery, the leads will reach just about.

I used oil meeting the correct spec (C1 and the relevant ford spec) from my local motor factors. 20 litres for £51+VAT.
