Fed up with XENONS

Going through a nightmare with XENON headlamps that either intermittently fail on either side, flicker or sometimes work ok. I don't do much night driving but with MOT coming up I just know this is going to be an issue. Question is due to the ridiculous price of XENON components is it possible to change the complete headlamp units for conventional halogen units and is the plug connector the same? I can get a complete halogen unit for less than the price of a ballast resistor. Will this need coding in Testbook?

I could never work out whether it was the ignitor or ballast resistor that was causing the problems. I ended up buying complete second-hand units [including balast resistor] from eBay for around £45-£55 per side which solved the problem.

Mind you, since then I ended up changing to the 2006 lights [plus bumper/grille] and not had a problem since. Current:

I had this randomly on either side and solved it by replacing the lighting module which works both lights.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Xenon-HID-Headli...2749.l2649

Cost was £38 brand new and takes 5 minutes to fit. Its located behind and below the nearside Headlight with 3 torx screws.

Remove the air duct first and its easy, takes 5 minutes.

They have been fine ever since

Best wishes
Glen
