United Kingdom 2016 Range Rover Autobiography TDV6 Waitomo Grey

Great informative video.

Interesting opinion on wheel size. I would have thought for mixed use, including farm tracks, 19" would have been more suited.

He's identified the sweet spot in the market. The 3.6 is such good value these days that it's really hard to justify the 4.4, although I might change my mind if I drove one.

not buying the parallel/sequential turbo argument!

I don't buy that either, and like a lot of people he thinks sequential turbocharging always starts with the small turbo then a bigger one. For all JLR V6 and V8's it's the other way round. Here's a (not very good) article on it: -

Quote:
Key to the new engine's performance and efficiency is the Parallel Sequential turbocharger system which is almost identical in concept to that of the fantastic, 2010 3.0-litre LR-TDV6 introduced on the Discovery 4. During normal driving, a medium-sized, variable-geometry turbocharger works alone, optimising efficiency. When the engine revs climb beyond 2,400rpm, valves in the exhaust manifold open and a smaller, secondary turbo seamlessly accelerates to full speed in just 20 milliseconds, full bi-turbo operation being achieved in only 180ms with no lag or power step. This method allows the second turbocharger to remain dormant when not required, improving engine efficiency by reducing pumping losses. A balance pipe connecting the two manifolds equalises pressure between the two exhaust systems.

It's completely different to the BMW system, which is a compound system - one big turbo blowing into a smaller one. Even the BMW system goes to just a big turbo at higher revs.

Yes, very good video with some sensible advice for potential buyers, thanks for flagging it.

Watched this a couple of times now (plus other useful YouTube L322 videos). Budget is always a factor between choosing a good 3.6 which can be over 15k to a good 4.4 which are now dipping below 19k. More looking on autotrader over the coming months...
