Lack of heat

The last couple of weeks it’s been a bit hit miss getting the cabin warm, doesn’t matter how high I have the temperatures set I have to wait untill the temp dial is vertical before heat comes through, when it does it’s not that hot either
I’ve the centre dial all the way to hot (I can hear what sounds a like a flap opening and closing when moving from hot to cold) and the climate on auto, I’ve tried it in manual ac on/off and it makes no difference, the rear gets hot air a lot quicker too.
I’ve had some coolant leaks, replaced the control valve on the ‘wing’ and the complete control unit in the dash (twice) I’ve bled the system from the Fuel cooler and the bleed screw on the header tank a few times......did wonder if the outside temp made any difference but is been warmer recently and I’m sure it’s taking longer every day, I have noticed a waft of warm ish air when slowing for round abouts etc but it then turns cold again.....is there any where else to bleed the system? Is there anything else check?

If you have a FBH there is a single valve, similar to the double valve mounted on inner wing, mounted on the bulkhead this reduces or increases the flow into the heater matrix so that when the FBH is on it doesn't heat the whole of the cooling system mine was stuck half way and therefore reducing the flow by half have a look at it I first tested by replacing with a y piece on the hoses it was hot quick replaced with a new one from Dan at duckworths problem solved
Hope this helps

I’ve not got a fbh as far as I’m aware (no timed climate option) so guess that rules it out? Would I remove the battery or inner wing to check for the fbh?

Just look on the bulkhead where the pipes go through for the heater matrix and see if there is a valve if not check that the pipes are getting hot

I thought all diesels had one and it worked auto when outside temp was below 7 degrees or something like that the petrols with it work at 1 deg c

Update- turns out the waft of hot air is coming from the passengers side, it’s just the drivers side that isn’t getting warm, if I give the control valve a tap I then get warm air to the drivers side but again it’s intermittent so must be a dodgy valve
I have started to loose coolant again so more investigation required......while looking for the leak I noticed fluid dripping from the passengers side near the wheel, it’s not coolant (wrong colour) so must be from the air con, I did spot what looks like the exhaust from the FBH so guess I must have one? But the valves not there? Could it have been disabled hence not having the timed climate option? Would the exhaust be there as standard build then the fbh an option?

High Andy, I don't suppose you have a picture of the valve and where it is located do you please?
I'm having similar problems, drivers side cold, passenger side warm.

Cheers

Thanks Dave, much appreciated.

Is that right hand side as you are looking at it from front ie passenger side or actually on drivers side?
Apologies for all the questions, wish I could just go and look!

cheers

From memory if you take the battery out you can get access to the pump its under the battery holder

Thanks guys, I'll have a look tomorrow in the light.

I've further noticed that the rear a/c is constantly cold.
Front passenger warmest, and occasional heat on drivers side that goes cold on any journey more than a few miles.

I'm going to have to find a workshop manual/diagram and try and work out possible failure points and I'm always open to advice and others experiences.

I'm sure I've seen a workshop manual pdf on the forums somewhere. If anyone has any useful links or advice on what is possibly causing this I'm all ears Thumbs Up

Thanks for the advice so far, much appreciated Thumbs Up
