Should it stay or should it go?

I have an 02 4.4 ffrr that I've had for 10 years and it is still in good condition as it has wanted for nothing but my dilemma is that I have a jag xf and only do about 10,000 miles per annum between the pair, it seems a waste having 2 cars but I like my ffrr, it has 135,000miles on it now and I have not had a autobx in it while I've had it, so as I see it the autobox could be a weak area, the engine is whisper quiet but the chain guides are a weak area, but other than replacing the chain guides and auto box I am happy with it or should i sell both and buy a 2011/12 4.4 tdv8 and then what mileage, low before anything has been replaced or higher when someone else has replaced things and of course chucking another lump of cash in as well.
Any opinions welcome

Just my pennies worth , if you enjoy the FFRR then a 4.4 tdv8 would be a great choice. Prices are coming down so the hard part would be to find one well kept. I'm not really bothered by mileage to much, the feel and condition of the car are much more important.

My own 4.4 has 110k miles on it and it's a tight as can be. With the tft display and 8 speed box i can't recommend one highly enough. 2015 4.4 AB

I had the 3.0S Portfolio and it was a lovely car and did have a sense of occasion when you sat in it. On the plus side the tech is a bit more up to date and it's a very refined car but then it's never something that could realistically be compared to a FFRR.

I had an XF-S portfolio too, and they are unbelievable. Pace, space and grace sure enough and driving it is a sense of occasion. Bought a 3.6TDV8 Fatty when I moved to rural Ireland 3 years ago. The Fatty is much better suited to the roads here.

Stagger, a modern TDV8 Range Rover is every bit as refined as the XF, with a quiet plush ride and great road manners.

It wont corner as well as the Jag but I don't know how "spirited" your driving is. However, it is every bit the same sense of occasion climbing in. Spend a weekend test driving a few and feel the smile wash over you.

I've had the xf for 4 years and while it "does what it says on the tin" I would part with it without remorse as I still prefer my older ffrr but it is getting on in years so should it go and risk buying an unknown, even 2011/12 are coming up 6/7 years old so is it better the devil you know?

However much you like it, and no matter how good it’s condition, a 2002 FFRR just isn’t worth what it should be any more. As you won’t get much for it, AND YOU LIKE IT, I’d say keep it.

Well I have dithered about over what to do, and not for the first time, but as I sold my classic car just over a year ago I’m thinking that the ffrr should become my new classic project as it’s worth more to me than the cash i would get for it.
What is about Land Rovers that makes rational decisions seem so difficult.

I'm beginning to get a similar stage with what will I do with mine. Its almost as you say, just worth holding onto it and letting it become a classic / hobby car, and just getting a more fun / suitable car for the rest of the time. V8 or else ...

My 04 4.4 has 196k on the clock and still going strong. Bought myself a 2012 Westminster a month ago but as what I would get for the 04 is far less than its value to me its staying as a farm hack and will keep the Westie for 'best' Current Fleet:-

I have been having exactly the same thoughts. Mine has now done 152k miles and it’s creaking and groaning worse than ever.
I looked at various cars (Discos mainly and even a Shogun) last week and was offered between £2000 and £2500 for it trade in. I’m now at the stage of looking for a high-ish miles 4.4 Tdv8 (up to 100k) as everything else I drove was inferior to mine, despite the creaks.
I’m not sure if SWMBO would let me keep the ‘truck’ though.
IMHO the hardest part of owning a FullFat is accepting that it’s time to let it go. I’m struggling.... Crying or Very sad

Well, I jumped in a late model Disco 4 the other day and drove it for a bit. I can't fault it. Drove lovely, very smooth, loads of power, nice spec inside etc etc etc ...

but

it aint no range rover. As soon as I jumped back into mine, I instantly thought that despite being 9 years old now, the L322 was a nicer place to be, even at 9 years old.

Driven a few shoguns of late too. I like em ( i think they are what the defender should have changed into ) ... but again ... jump out a new shogun and back into the L322, and its just a different league of finish and feel in the FFRR. V8 or else ...
