Try spending time on Pistonheads if you fancy a contrast!
Does anyone find that other folk (non FFRR drivers) have very strange views about our cars:

they are impossibly unreliable
every one of them costs a fortune to buy and run
you should only have one if you regularly go off road
most owners are pimps or drug dealers or both
they are much too big
they are destroying the planet

For me its the go anywhere feeling and the FBH. I have a wry smile when I see others that have scraped a slot through the frost on the screen just so they can catch the school bus and are still shivering with the cold.
Mine spends a lot of time on dirt and gravel tracks so its never clean enough to look at and feel proud.

Some really good points. The 'go anywhere' ability seems to be almost unanimous!

Since owning mine the number of other cars on the road i look at and think 'wouldn't mind one of those...' has dropped significantly.

I've had mine 6 months and apart from the paranoia that this forum brings on every time I go out in it (I read about so many niggles that people have and I'm always worried that today will be the day that one of them happens to me) I always remember the words of the salesman as I drove it away from the showroom.

"This car makes you King of the road"

He's not wrong there.

I am on my second now. We live up a 1/4 mile track so the car is always covered in mud and hence doesn't often look her best from the outside but in spite of that, for me it is that every single time I get in to drive her is a sense of occasion. That and the fact that whatever the conditions I know I will have a safe, serene and ridiculously comfortable trip....especially in winter after the Fbh has done it's business.🙂

few of us realise how good our own FF looks because we are the ones that drive it...if you're thinking of changing it for another make, get the wife or someone to drive it and stand and admire it as it goes by, you'll fall in love again... ... - .- -.

I know we maybe going a little "off topic" but I think part of the reason this is a nice place to visit is because it is "moderately moderated" by Stan amongst others

Joking aside, for a forum to work you must allow freedom of expression but at the same time be respectful that not everyone may have the same opinion as you. On the rare occasion when this does get out of hand the "Mods" step in and normal service is quickly resumed.

I joined 8 years ago and the group of forums set up by Martin have been incredibly useful over that time not to mention the money they have saved me

Hopefully I have positively contributed to them too

The x factor for me is that I just dont want to sell them - when I drove jags I had a new one every two years always sovereigns or xjrs usually same colour but with these I keep them mine is getting a bit long in the tooth so will probably buy another this year and this one will go in the garden with the others

Someone I know used to have a P38 - a 4.6 litre Vogue. They had it donkeys' years but it always retained its air of battered dignity as it got a bit rough around the edges. A couple of years ago he traded it in for a fairly new Lexus RX450 hybrid thing. When I asked about his new car he said it was "faster than his Range Rover, quieter, cheaper to run and more comfortable, but it just wasn't as nice". That summed Range Rover ownership for me - they are just nice. Not necessarily better (though we all know they are) but just nicer. I sit in my fatty and I can't imagine a nicer place to be,.
