jet washers and salty windscreen !

Any advice on how to keep your washer jets working in these sub zero temperatures. The washers are full, they have a strong mixture as recommended and the bonnet is clear of snow and ice...I travelled 20 miles this morning on the motorway and they are still not working. With the salt on the windsceen it makes visability quite poor especially as when you try it, the wipers smear the salt all over your view.....I thought that a warm car with heated washer jets would be fine but no....I even tried taking all the heat from the windscreen so the salt wouldn't dry but that didn't make any difference...role on summer so I can complain about the aircon not working !!! I need more help than most...sorry !!

I always use the concentrated screen wash from Tesco but this time of year I use it neat haven't had a problem yet. Doesn't the FF have heated washer jets as well.

Took SWMBO to airport this morning at 3.00 AM -6 Centigrade washers frozen there and back despite having "proper" screen wash in. Had to stop twice on way home to clean screen, didn't stop on the way there because I didn't want her to be late for flight. It's my only week of peace in the whole year Wink Geoff

Agreed, it needs to be neat. I have concentrated wash, diluted 50;50 with water and it’s freezing at around -3, so it’s frozen now. I’d expect most “ready to use” (ie, diluted at the factory) to be hopeless.

Yep, I have to agree "ready to use" is useless when it gets so cold, heated jets do just that - heat the jets, not thaw out the reservoir and the pipes but on the upside gummi pflege ensured I could open the door this morning. Very Happy Geoff

Mine were working ok today in -14

I drove back from the Czech Republic at the end of half term and the washers kept freezing on that as we were driving even with neat solution in and heated nozzles. That was fun Rolling with laughter Alex

I use Decosol Excel screen wash in winter & have never had a problem with frozen washer jets - even on our D2 with non heated washer jets & temps down to -10c on 1 occasion. The Decosol is rated down to -24c if neat.
My experience of low cost screen washes is poor - if you read the back of the containers, many are rated only to -5C if neat.
You can usually buy the Decosol from motor factors , but some have to order it if you want to get the 5l / 1 gallon containers which are a reasonable amount cheaper. Paul,

makes sense that the reservoir would be frozen and hence not supplying water to the washers cos today, a bottle of water i had in the cab was frozen solid... ... - .- -.

Autoglym screen wash here, no problems if mix with water concentrated enough, have known minus 20 with it. Only Range Rovers since 1988
