Yes.. lol! I know.. I realised when I passed a police car and he was pointing at the sky shaking his head.. not funny actually, that's an accident waiting to happen..

..so I cleared it off before venturing back out (only to find the supermarkets and shop all closed )

Snow is up to the wing mirrors in places, main A roads reduced to single lane with a wall of snow on each side in places, shouldn't really have been out if I'm honest..

The Range just ploughs through 1m high drifts with relative ease, amazing.

It's a tricky call, but I think the lack of ground clearance on the XF would make me choose the FFRR and just take it a bit easier. Too many toys, not enough time

Ground clearance - that's a good point! I hadn't thought of that. The Jag is lowered.

I'm going to save myself all this trouble next year by just buying those winter wheels and tyres I was on about. It's a pain having to swap the wheels twice a year, but it's better than standing at the front door scratching my head for 20 minutes because I can't decide which car to take.

For what it's worth - I think the decision has been made for me anyway. Our neighbour's son's car is also on winter tyres, and he could only get back up the road last night with the help of half a dozen mates to give him a push. So the Range and "easy on the right foot" it is. If you don't hear from me ever again, I'll be in a ditch somewhere.

FFRR on General Grabbers - goes anywhere you ask it to - the issue is stopping once you get there!

Got to take it easy at junctions where the snow is compacted to ice, good to test the ABS though..

My Audi A4 Cab 3.0 (FWD) copes well in the snow due to loads of low down torque, but nothing like the FFRR for grip.

BMW drivers at work yesterday all got lifts in  .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

Ok here we go sons M1 BMW drove that out of our drive - nightmare was like there was no traction at all and stopping was a mare - wife alfa with cross climates on not too bad but a bit twitchy but was stoppable so then the FF with Vreds on total control both acceleration and stopping and that just in snow !!!!!you are all mad if you dont put winter tyres on
