the easiest way is to have a look, there is a motor/actuator attached to the locking Diff, and there isn't one on the standard open diff.

you could try one of the vin decoder sites Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks guys. Just looked at VIN on Topix and it shows rear axle open diff, which I guess is the non electronic version? Out of interest what does the electronic version give over the standard one? Chris

yes that is the non electronic version.

the electric diff has the actuator in it which physically locks the diff, like an old fashioned diff lock lever. but it does it automatically via the terrain response system, the open diff uses the braking system to slow the spinning wheel and transfer power to the wheel with grip.

Both systems work well, in theory the locking diff is better in off road conditions, however in normal driving/slightly muddy fields you wont notice that you have the normal diff not the e diff. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

changed oil in differentials and transfer box today. consulted the Workshop manual for capacities and notis this caution notice.

CAUTIONS:
The fluid filler plug is not a fluid level plug.
If a thread of fluid runs/drips from the filler plug hole after
refilling, the differential has been overfilled. Drain the fluid and refill
with the correct amount.
Fill the front differential case with the correct amount of fluid.

when filled with correct amount of oil, level is 2~3 mm below filer hole. 2012 TDV8 Black Edition

Emirates, going to follow your guide over the next week or so, but I've got 2 bottles of Ravenol VSG 75w-90, would that be OK for the diffs in my TD6? Only asking as you said to use only CASTROL SYNTRAX LONGLIFE 75W90 Synthetic GL5 Gear OIL
