Been meaning to go to the old Grand Prix stands the last few times ive stayed at the Reims novotel as they are only 5 mins drive away.

Worth a look around, not much to see but quite atmospheric. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Just quickly hosed off the salt and crud and checked the machine over.

Yet again it developed a rattle underneath..... yet again it was a bit of heat shield come adrift!! It is no longer attached and is now in the bin on my drive....

Otherwise it ran almost faultlessly! I did get a bit of brake drone when braking hard from speed? Not sure if the cause yet tho....

Averaged 28mpg at a steady French cruising speed Whistle

Next job is MOT, which is due soon. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Not posted about the big red one on this thread for a while, mostly because it’s just been running around fulfilling its family wagon commitments.

Not needed for anything or demanded any attention until this weekend. So ive given it a once over and as per my other thread, the ancillary belt tensioner has been done, and it’s thrown a one off gearbox overheating message, when under no particular strain?

So I’ve ordered up a genuine ZF pan kit (number sources from ZF website...) from www.buycarparts.co.uk, I have spotted some cheap oil at mytyres.co.uk, so once that’s all arrived I will get on with swapping the gearbox oil. Sounds like a bit of a black art with all the temps etc, but I have a thermometer and I’m pretty sure it’s not as hard as it sounds.....and the Amazon man has just turned up with my mini hand pump. Very Happy

Other than that, the rear pads have started squealing, which is a quick grease job, which I was going to do today, but it’s Censored down so that’s a no, and so is a good wash and vac!

Just clocked over 60,000 too so that’s a milestone of sorts, but looking at this years milage so far, is pretty low, probably because I’ve not done any continental trips for summer this year! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

We towed the tin tent down to Longleat last weekend and the car was faultless. no gearbox overheating messages, smooth changes etc so the fluid change was a success.

I have a bit of a knock at the front, initially suspected drop links but they were done not too long ago so I’m thinking it’s probably time for a ball joint or two....

Dan did me some good prices, but a quick check on the AUTODOC app gave a couple of cheaper options. However I went with OE Lemforder bits so they are on the way. Now is the time to decide whether to DIY arms and joints or to pay some poor Censored to do it for me......

Leaning towards the latter, but might have a go at one side and see how it goes..... stuff won’t be here until the week after next so I’ve got time to decide.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Front end seems so much smoother now I’ve done the arms and one of the ball joints.😊😊

Wasn’t too much of a pain to do the arms, took about an hour a side taking my time, it was the ball joint which was a real git. Anyhow I did one and as the other side seemed ok I thought I’d leave it for a bit Whistle (read couldnt be Censored to take it off)

So car is now good for a bit Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

more preventative stuff has turned up courtesy of Dan.

I now have 4 new short hoses and an ear gasket to swap out. Will have the rear scuttle off at the same time and have a look at the rings, on the turbo feed at the same time. They were fine last time I looked but its worth a check.

At the moment I just dont fancy going out in the pouring rain and getting the car in the garage, then freezing my cojones off doing the job. It can wait until after xmas! Whistle There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Well the holidays have started well.

I managed to reverse into a parked transit pickup. Fortunately it was a tarmaccers wagon and I only hit the flatbed so no damage to him, but I've lightly gouged Whistle above the rear light and broken the NS cluster.

Dan will have one with me by the end of next week, and ive managed to tape up the broken one and all lights are functional so all OK legal wise, just a right PITA.

I can make all the excuses in the world, but is was just a senior moment (at 43) and I was watching a van manoeuvre infant of me. The beepers were beeping, but as the flatbed protruded the beepers weren't thinking I was near that so they were happily beeping away as I heard the crunch! didn't even start on the single beep.

Stupid thing is that I had seen the truck when I went in, and thought to myself that I would need to look out for that when I backed out........ Big Cry Big Cry There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Just read this comment, I was working in Paris up until 2015 and took the opportunity to go to the 'Weekend d'ecellence' in 2009 at Reims circuit, amazing weekend! They had Agostini and Phil Read doing laps on their race bikes, plus Henri Pescarolo in his F1 Matra V12, plus various other historic race cars (Silk Cut LeMans Jag).
