iPhone 7, latest iOS, and the iPad cable

I can no longer play Spotify in my 2010 RR via the iPod cable, using the latest iOS on an iPhone 7.

I thought the cable was faulty (it was a cheapo off eBay) so I ordered a far more expensive one with great reviews, same problem.

Anyone know if this is an iOS issue and have a fix?

I've seen a couple of other say the newest IOS is incompatible with the head unit software.

that's a pain - I assume you were using the old ipod lead plus a 30-pin to lightning adapter?

Tried a lightning adapter with the cable on one of my ipods, works on everything apart from the ff, so i just got a 32GB usb and use that.
