4.4 tdV8 turbo oil drain mod.

Hi All,

I have searched and found a lot of info regarding the turbo drain mod in posts and the wiki Thumbs Up Good work Admin team !

I have just been told that my 2012 Westy can now have the mod having been in the garage 4 times and has been there for the last 5 weeks but my problem doesnt match what all the info on the site refers to...My issue is that there is a really strong oil burning smell when the car is pushed above the normal revs, which then follows smoke coming out from the back of the engine but not the exhaust, could these symptons be similar and need the mod or do we think it could be something different ? ( being done under warranty )

All advice greatly received.... I need more help than most...sorry !!

If you're getting it done under warranty I'd snap their hands off - even if it doesn't fix your symptoms at least it's something that wont cost you later!

Doesn't sound like the turbo drain symptoms which is purely related to accumulated oil in the inlet to the secondary turbo which gets burnt and produces a smokescreen out the exhaust. Your symptoms are more like the EGR valve/oil cooler oil leak problem or perhaps the turbo oil supply pipe O-ring leak.

+1 on the above.

Sounds like oil on the back of the engine. Check the header tank for oil contamination and see if you can see any oil in the V of the engine. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

+2 on the above, but I would definitely get the turbo drain mod done.
Mine used to smoke like a factory chimney but not seen a trace of smoke since, which given the new MOT tests from May is reassuring.
