Dashcam installation

Hiya,

I'm just thinking of having a couple of dashcams installed, and these guys look reasonably sensible:

https://www.shield-it.co.uk/

Does anyone have any experience of them? I've seen photos of their work and the install is neat, and the system they offer remains live as long as the battery charge is above 12V. I was planning on having a battery pack installed to keep the cams live if the voltage drops below 12V, because the last thing I need is battery trouble...

My biggest concern is the rear cam. I mean, I would like a rear cam! But I also have two big dogs, one of whom has already killed my rear demister with his muzzle by banging on the window in his excitement to get out. Does anyone have experiences of the big dog + rear cam combination, or am I hoping for too much?

Any and all advice gratefully accepted. Thanks. Cool

I fitted my own. Made sure that the rear camera is right up against the interior of the window, so where it dips down the glass, right up to that. Only have a lab, but no issues with it getting in his way, then again, he doesn't charge the door as such, just the smallest of gaps as it opens Rolling Eyes

Thanks! That sounds interesting. Is your cam mounted centrally?

We're thinking of fabricating a small cage to go round the cam - and putting the cam right up at the top left of the windscreen so that the dog is less likely to barge into it. I don't suppose you've got a pic of your cam installed, have you? Don't worry about getting one especially if you don't though, I just thought I'd ask. Smile

this one is stuck on the front window but it shows its quite flat so 'the dog' is less likely to knock it off,

I will sort a couple out. Mine is central at the back, the wire comes down unfortunately and is a bit unsightly, but will figure something out for that when i get chance. If feeds all the way along to the front camera around the windows and lining so nothing is seen. The power is then feed from the front to the fuse box using a feed through fuse on the lighter fuse.

Thanks both! I've got to try and work out which corner is going to be safer - I'm guessing offside because I approach the car from the nearside and that's where the dog bounces to. I was thinking of taking the cam out of the car unless it's in use, but then there's no point in me having it hardwired and backed up with a battery...

It would be much easier to ban the dogs from the car, but that would kind of ruin the whole point of having the car I suppose.

Must get smaller dogs next time!
