Mini disaster struck at the weekend. I was trying to catch up with some friends on the motorway so had wound the ffrr up a bit to 150kph ish when I heard this bang, crash then thud and saw something silver in the wing mirror. Stopped to check the car and found the front left indicator unit had fallen off!!! Sorry for the lopsided portrait picture.

Whilst in that area I noticed the tyre is dated 2005 - will try and change both fronts tomorrow.

A new indicator unit has been ordered from Island-4x4 so it should be here next week.

Weight saving Mr. Green nobody uses indicators nowadays, i swear they are an optional extra!.

You will probably need a new headlamp unit as well!

The indicator unit is (I think) fixed to a lug on the back of the headlamp housing. We had exactly the same happened to ours not long after we bought it, the offside indicator unit fell off!

Gettingold - that certainly applies out here and if they are being used you can pretty much guarantee they will turn the opposite way.

Paul - thats not good news, will double check now. I think the threaded bar is still there but I could't work out what happened to allow the unit to just drop off. The price of a new headlight unit is no fun at all.

Just checked and the lugs are still on the side of the main unit and the threaded attachment point is still there with the back of the indicator unit still attached. Result!!

After checking the tyres and founding out they were well over a decade old Saturday afternoon was spent finding somewhere that was open and stocked tyres made in the last 6 months. Found a little garage which could do all four tyres straight away and the operation was done in the car park out front;



Tidy shop inside;



I looked the other way after taking the picture;



14 years old, 140,000 km and no rust!



What a transformation, the ride is so much better as is the steering.

I had to go into the city centre today so spent a couple of hours crawling through stop start traffic. I had a hazy view overlooking old Doha during the meeting;



And then a not so lovely view on the drive home;



i dropped it off with Arsen the Turk who runs the German Car Garage to see what the problem is and sort out the air con as that also died a slow and increasingly warm death over the last few weeks. Fingers crossed for a quick repair that is a) cheap and b) doesn't need parts - the front indicator still hasn't left the UK yet.

Transmission overheat can be caused by a blocked tranny oil cooler or the bottom few rows of your radiator being blocked. Prob worth getting your rad flushed (or replaced) and maybe even a new oil cooler (don’t think they are that expensive - search the forum I am sure it’s been mentioned a few times Whistle

Well the issue turned out to be a duff sensor - being so very pleased with such a minor issue I had the aircon regassed given the temperatures have suddenly jumped up into the 40's. After collecting the car I drove back up to the site offices, when the dahboard lit up with the following messages;

1. transmission over heat
2. transmission fail safe mode (no drive through the gearbox)
3. engine fail safe
4. air suspension inactive
5. hill descent inactive

I managed to limp back to the garage where was an issue with the diagnostic machine connecting to the car, after a bit of cursing and manually entering the vin number it connected but there were no error codes. I have dumped the car with them and am waiting patiently for the phone call. Trying to stay positive with the car but failing miserably!

So a month has passed during which time the gearbox was diagnosed as f&*ked and a second hand replacement found and fitted. I collected the car yesterday morning and withing 10 minutes the cars was misfiring badly and flashing the engine light at me so this morning it was collected again....

It has spent more time on the road on this than its own four wheels!

The ignition coils have been replaced with some second hand units so we are now back up and running!
